Half the skin is done... got this far and it got dark in the room. Ask my daughter to turn on the lights and when she did so the lightbulb died in a funny little flashing explosion... it was the last one we had of this kind... the empty box in the cellar said something about long durability... well one day too short I'd say... anyways... got some poster tack and assembled the beast again... still debating which material I'll give the engine... but I have to say I like it more with every step it takes... was a bit unsure if the crew would look too much out of place cause of the orange and far more with according to thier size... but I think when they are shaded and so on they'll fit quite well...
    20180211_225648.jpg
I also did some highlights on the back dots on the shell and on his head...
    20180211_225717.jpg
    Unfinished side... 20180211_225729.jpg
The blue on the operator skink will be in black, white and orange like on the other two... ah! And remind me to not glue the shell on the body before it's painted... highlighting the skin will be a pain in the ... on the other hand one could say if one can't reach it with a brush it needs no highlights cause it's too deep under the shell...

I love how creative the idea is of making a lady bug basti!

Agreed :D Really nice coloration. And fantastic work on the crystal pieces; those gems look like they are glowing!

I really should learn to concentrate on one project at the time... but I had this idea and I had to let the mojo flow while it was willing... so I cut off the tail of my second basti and reattached it in a slightly different position... also thinking about extending some of the spikes and maybe adding some extra spikes... maybe the paint scheme will swap to something jaws beetle like. Making it part of the brown skinned part of my forces due to the fact that the jaws beetle's maggots are of a brownish white or beige color with a light brown to middle brown head capsule... guess I'll stick to the beetle/insect theme for my bastilladons then... for the green it would be something like a green mantis then cause they hatch as complete insect and so the young are of the same color as the adults... anyways ... took pictures of both bastis for comparison...

I also took away some of the glow effects on the crystal by starting painting the rest of the engine... decided to try stone grey and silver as many color and add some orange (or gold) and black(kind of jade or so) bits... also need to sneak in some red gold and green bits to show my tricolore somewhere on the model. I was thinking about the three gems at the top of each side plate. Or the Slann faces on the inside to vomit some rainbows :vomit:...

So... what do you think about it?

Are you going to repaint the green basti? Because if so, this might be a cool bug to base it off of. It's a rhino beetle.

You could put a pin coming out of his back, and make that large "horn" around the pin. You could even use a left over troglodon tail.
Like the one I have left over...

Added the silver... the principle is that the ground plates and the stanchions (can you call it so) on the front and back are kind of stone and the plates around the crystal and some other prominent parts like the plates on the front and back are some kind of silver metal (silver maybe?!)...

I must be mentally not so well... but the effect is great...

Achieved by drybrushing Vallejo's stone wall grey over the mechanicus standard grey, washing with a 1:1 mix of nuln oil and Vallejo's glaze medium followed by edges of stone wall again... the last step obviously only done on the hindlegg and the very first bit of the tail... this will take some time to finish... but how do we say in Germany: laboriously feeds the squirrel...:beaver:
Edit: more like a beaver, isn't it?

It looks great! Though that is a lot of really tiny highlighting to do, good luck o_O

Nice, never heard this phrase. :D

Also just learned/rediscovered the animal faces on this forum :chicken:

Haha, my father also says that all the time. :D

I am not sure if there is an English phrase that matches it.
It means "bit by bit, little by little" but way more colorful. :)

Directly from page two... first time since creation of this thread that it's been there... first time I spend weeks without painting...
Well... still have the bastilladon going on but now real progress atm... instead I repainted the skin of my female antipaladin (why does autocorrect suggest vagina at this point?!) gave her a more zombie like look...

Now I'll have to redo the clothes and continue the armor parts... but first I'll get a new detail brush...

Indeed found some time to paint yesterday... to save some time I switched from highlighting every single scale of the basti's scaly skin to drybrushing and washing... also started working on the crew again... turned out to be difficult as my hands seemed to be a bit shaky after the long break and the all that drybrushing (3 layers) on the basti...
    20180429_211258.jpg 20180429_211312.jpg 20180429_211323.jpg 20180429_211355.jpg 20180429_211405.jpg 20180429_211424.jpg
Oh and the underside of the gem holding stone plate was made grey in various tones... Will add fine white and black lines tomorrow (when my hands stop shaking...)
