I'm just going to drop this into the tank, step back and let the feeding frenzy begin:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/11/warhammer-fest-live-blog-2gw-homepage-post-1/

AoS second edition is on the horizon, and the boxed game looks as though it will feature SCE (again - it's becoming like 40K) and Death this time, specifically ghosts, i.e. Nighthaunt, after Malign Portents appeared, if the illustration behind the AoS logo is anything to go by. There will certainly be two new SCE and Nighthaunt characters, but I'm sincerely hoping that GW will leave it for a while until they bring out yet another SCE battletome.

There are rumours/hopes that GW will incorporate more of 8th Edition 40K into the new edition (which I don't think is too bad - there will be more tactical nuances to think about anyway) such as on this site:
https://spruesandbrews.com/2018/04/08/warhammer-age-of-sigmar-2nd-edition-what-we-would-like-to-see/
I'm certainly hoping that the new character rules will appear in the new edition - it will be more like the Look Out Sir rules in fantasy and it means that there will be no more hero-sniping unless they're on a big monster, certainly great for Fyreslayers as they have loads of foot characters that give out loads of useful buffs and it's a nuisance when they're sniped before they can do anything.

Anyway, let the thoughts about it spill out all over this thread - I await your ideas!

Well new edition, about time to update the Seraphon ;) Old rules in the book now when the new edition gets released.

I imagine (and am hoping) all the armies currently released will get updates because the rules in the original books will certainly be outdated. If they have any sense of justice they should look into giving the older armies (Seraphon, Fyreslayers, Flesh Eater Courts, Bonesplitterz) new books and minis first. Fyreslayers are probably the most competent of these 'old armies' in the current edition and General's Handbook with Seraphon next, but they should all get an update in 2nd Edition. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what they do with Fyreslayers - hopefully they'll give them some named characters and some more creatures with a new book and updated mechanics. If they do, it'll be a great time for me to start them.

I'm hoping that they'll move the unit profiles closer to 8th Edition 40K too as they'll be more similar to the older editions of Fantasy and 40K and will still be reasonably easy to learn. However I'm also hoping that GW will keep the warscrolls free as that has been a real help to me in understanding the weaknesses of the other races.

I'm very excited by this. From what I'm seeing, some of the big changes are expanded magic, all heroes can use their command abilities, and no more shooting when locked in combat.

I can't believe I got up at six o'clock in the morning on a Saturday to scour message boards for updates from a gaming seminar going on half a world away, but here I am!

Certainly we've already seen magic evolve from something pretty basic to something more similar to magic in Warhammer Fantasy, and I'm imagining the new edition will make this official.

Also no more shooting when locked in combat makes much more sense, and makes melee troops much more viable. An excellent bonus for Fyreslayers.

So this just popped up. He mentions some interesting stuff with respect to shooting, command abilities & magic. It also introduces two new armies; a spectral undeath one & a new army that @NIGHTBRINGER will enjoy o so much.

Anyone know any more details? Especially about the overhauls to the core of the game such as the change mentioned to command abilities?

Haven't looked properly yet but update on the blog https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/11/warhammer-fest-live-blog-2gw-homepage-post-1/

Skeleton horses oh my.
Wait that Stormcast has like a mini Carno..... *Kicks rider off and sticks a Saurus on top*

Looks like unfortunately Stormcast will be getting another chamber after Extremis, which will either appear as a separate book for a while and then be merged with the rest in a new book for all of them or will just be getting a new battletome for all of them including these new Sacrosanct ones.

On the other side of things, Death players including @Crowsfoot will be excited about the new Nighthaunt minis that the Knight of Shrouds will be part of. Because these were two of the factions given Harbingers in Malign Portents, I'm imagining that Night Goblins/Moonclan Grots and Chaos Marauders/Darkoath will be given their own armies as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the Night Goblins and seeing @NIGHTBRINGER's fascination with that Warqueen I expect he'll be excited about Darkoath...

I'm pretty excited myself for the Nighthaunt minis, especially the horse ones. Might have to make a full horse undead army now.

It'll certainly be interesting to see more of AoS fleshed out. I'm hoping that the game will also become more fleshed out and more tactical - it's already becoming more like Fantasy with units having generalised Standard Bearers and Musicians and having spell 'lores' with several spells that are unique to wizards from the same army.

I'm also guessing this 'Malign Sorcery' will be the AoS version of Storm of Magic where magic just goes bonkers and does strange and hilarious things to the game.

[EDIT] I've just had a look at the FAQs:
https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/WarhammerAgeOfSigmar-QA.pdf

Looks like all existing battletomes will remain viable, but certainly the older armies may well be getting new rules because GW generally doesn't like really outdated books - We'll gloss over poor old Bretonnia this time around, but I may be making more allusions to it if GW doesn't update the Fyreslayers book with new creatures and characters soon (and Seraphon of course ;)).

@Canas didn't you see my discussion in General Hobby Chat?

I don't mind the game becoming more tactical provided the rules aren't much more complicated. I'm already finding it difficult to get people into the game for that reason, as although to us hardcore gamers it seems simple, it actually isn't. The unanimous opinion of pretty much everyone I've tried to introduce it to and have a game with is that it's really complicated, so to keep it open to new people I hope it stays quick and easy to learn (or at least not any harder).

As for the new models, I'm a bit annoyed that Stormcast are getting wizards because that seems to me like it was supposed to be their one main vulnerability, even if they had a way to counter it with the Lord-Veritant. I suppose it's probably to go with the new focus on magic, but still. It's also a bit annoying that they're going with more Stormcast to lead, but as always I find it really hard to criticise it too much as the models are, as always, really nice. At least it looks like we're getting more female models that will actually appeal to women, rather than being clearly designed to appeal to men.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Doesn't seem like anything too drastic will happen, as our old Battletomes are still valid and they aren't making us pay for new rules, which is good. Let's just hope we like the new changes!

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with it anyway, and am hoping that there will be updates to the older armies that give them more variation in their armies. Something new that is Magmadroth-related for Fyreslayers and some new Savage Orc stuff for Bonesplitterz.

Would rather see that than more Stormcast anyway, but at least Death is getting yet more love, so Death players will be loving the Nighthaunt stuff.

Check out the warhammer community website, new edition new sub factions, looks pretty cool.

What changes do you guys want to see and how do you think it will impact our lizards?

seeing @NIGHTBRINGER's fascination with that Warqueen I expect he'll be excited about Darkoath...
Why has the NIGHTBRINGER been summoned to a pro AoS thread? No good can come of this. Feelings will be hurt!

I summoned you because I remembered you liked the Warqueen and I thought you would be interested in the idea of an army being based around her. If not for gaming it, for the models alone.

Don't jinx it - GW probably have nonsense like that tucked under their sleeves for if 2nd Edition bombs now...
