AoS Second Edition

Have y'all seen the new Mortarch?
Not great but OK in my opinion. Nothing that a little conversion couldn't fix.
what an awefull name.. otherwise, fine-ish. Nothing amazing imho

I would paint her black with red. I think that would look awesome.

What's wrong with the name? Sounds not too bad to me.

Dunno, just rubs me the wrong way somehow.

They confirmed that there will be new Endless Spells released with the future Battletomes, Faction themed endless spells (You could argue that the 13 being released now can all be related to a specific faction)

I for one am hoping for a new version of jungle swarms as the Seraphon endless spell.

While people are exited/disappointed about the new Mortarch, let's also appreciate the accompanying artwork.

Now there is only one named Nighthaunt character that needs to be revealed, it's the guy riding a flaming horse and wielding a scythe.

Lady Olynder, I am so happy she isn't Isabella as quite a few people thought she would be. Great too see that GW is making new and (hopefully) interesting characters.

She does look a little weird, but that might just be the paint job. I think her model is pretty good, not as big I imagined, but still quite good. I think her model is just suffering from the 'Mortarion' effect. The 'Mortarion' effect is a phenomenon i have given models that look bad/not amazing when they're first shown, but when people look at it up close it's actually great.

Between the rose vines and the veil I think she's meant to have a sort of Betrayed Bride look, which feels odd since her backstory indicates that she'd be the person doing the betraying. Unless the circumstances of her death or the lot of her undeath were/are just especially karmic, which seems to be the Nighthaunt's overall theme.

That veil's definitely silhouetting a skull, though. I wonder if she can be modelled with the veil back and a bare skull. If so I guarantee people will be putting more fleshy faces on her too.

Ok I just read that the SCE ballista will be only 100 points and I am a bit shocked to be honest. I guessed 200 points and thought it was a pretty strong unit even then.

How are we going to defend against it? Our dinosaurs are big and a Slann is floating, so it will have line of sight over the whole table to fire with a bit less damage output than five Judicators. It gets much more lethal if you attack it up close, it has seven wounds and a 2+ save when it is on a piece of terrain. It has rend -2 and we dont have mystic shield anymore to counter rend. Our stuff is mostly immune against rend -1 but not against rend-2.
I am a bit baffled to be honest. Any ideas what to do against someone who brings three? Hell, he may bring five since they don't even have the artillery keyword.
You cannot snipe their crew and they can easily be buffed to have a rerollable 2+ hit.
Those things won't care about a little penalty from a LookOutSir rule and just shoot a Slann into Nirvana first round.

You cannot chaff them with units in their face because you cannot reach them in the first round unless your opponent places them really bad. He might even keep them up in the skies and drop them only in his turn if he fears he might not go first.

That doesn't look balanced at all.
Am I missing something?

Looks super fragile. Entire model held up by one single floaty dress trail, sitting on a thorn vine? Holding up three figures?

Maybe if there are customization options it might be more interesting, not my cup of tea I guess :(

GW really seems to be favouring these floating/flying models. There have been so many released since the inception of AoS.

I think she's awesome. can't wait to paint her up.

They sound overpowered based on their warscroll and points costs, if it stays how it is and points costed then it's going to be an easy 400 points of ally for any Order army.

In which case everyone will be taking that palisade spell to shut them down. Then the artillery player will have to add in a counter to that and the game goes on with each side finding ways to counter the other, just like the game should :)

Does the palisade spell not just protect a small area, maybe just one units worth depending on the model? That's not going to stop people taking them if they remain how they are. Obviously there are ways to counter artillery, same as always... Deep striking models and spells, and a good amount of shooting back. I just don't want a mortal wound dealing meta to exist purely to defeat one bit of artillery which currently looks over powered! Obviously need to see how it plays out.

The palisade model appears quite large. If the ballista are bunched up around a buffing character then slap it down in front of them and they are blocked off from shooting at a large portion of the table. With their very limited move that should be inconvenient for them.

Only to have it dispelled the following turn...

I understand what you're saying, there are definitely counters to them. We'll just have to wait and see how it works out, if suspisions are true I can see them receiving a little nerf.
