Hi!

If you don't mind I will talk a little bit about me, I used to work quite a long time ago as a sculptor for several miniature companies, specially the now defunct, but still loved by me, Urban Mammoth. When I got back into the hobby I concentrated in painting and I was happy.

About a year ago, inside a box I found something rather special, half finished sculpts. Things I was doing for myself when all went down the drain. Since then I've been thinking about them but never found the time to get them done, I guess I was just a bit scared.

A couple of days ago, talking to another sculptor, a newcomer but very talented guy that runs SABRE Miniatures, I got motivated and sculpted my first face in more than 10 years.

I'm happy.

Hope you like my other half done projects, I will be finishing them and due to the huge interest, selling them. Give some love if you want to the new Fb Page JH Miniatures

Hope you like them!

Excellent news I hope they sell well and spure you on.

How do you start being a sculptor?

How do you start being a sculptor?

I just started trying to make my own miniatures at some point. It just scales upwards from heavy conversions I guess.

By the time we started playing Urban Wars, an AMAZING skirmish game. Miniatures were alright for the most part but one in particular I hated, it was called the Pointman. He was amazing rules wise but a horrible miniature, so I decided to make my own and I did. Posted the finished product on the Urban Mammoth forums and 30 minutes later I had an email from the boss and a work offer.

That's it.

After a long time life and specially university grabbed me by the nuts and I had to choose. Apparently you cannot really work as a freelance sculptor and study engineering, of you want to graduate that is.

At least you followed your dream for a short time

That is awesome! Congrats on the work offer!

I like the paladin on foot... Long Live Bretonnia!

I did and it was great. I suppose I'm doing it again, even if it is as a free time hobby/job.

Don't get me wrong I love my regular job but this has always been special.

There will be more Bretonnian on foot, it's something that I've always wanted to make.

Well, work seems to coming slowly but steadily.

Hope you like them!

Also, Suggestions as to what to do next? What do YOU want to see?

I will run a poll soon on my Facebook page but I would like to see suggestions from my fellow forum members.

The idea is to fill gaps, give people something that haven't been made, special characters, artwork, etc.

I've got a real challenge for you - one of the races that inhabits the world of the novels I am writing is an avian species with an Egyptian theme called the Rachids, who inhabit the island of Phorus. If you want to have a go, then perhaps you could try sculpting one of these.

Here's an illustration depicting a standard member of the Rachid Infantry that I drew a while back, which you can use as a template for your first sculpt:

Trying to gauge the feel of the model - the lord of knowledge looks very serious and focused, the other looks more relaxed and controlled, so maybe some more flowing designs - a smooth helm or top knot with some flowing tattoos?
If you are feeling up to it maybe some delicate decal for his armour - snake outlines that curl into heads across his chest piece or shoulders (without being too bulky.
I presume you have an idea as to what his arms will look like/be doing - maybe his left holding the jowl of the beastie next to him (like an affectionate scratch) like the pet is cared for rather than dominated?
And for a weapon again I presume you know what gear he will have - but again something more stream line (curved blade or such)

Hope I helped I will be watching closely.
(In contrast right now I’m designing an Orruk brute) :)

not really the skink in question but is the closest thing to a depiction of the skavenpelt banner

borrowing from blanche's depiction of a slann perhaps?

complete with blade of realities and calendar-looking shield or something
any possible personal interest in certain suggestions is purely coincidental <.<

Interested in a copy of that mage. Price point?

Still have to sort out all the details, so not really sure, but in the range of 12-15 euros depending on the material and production costs. I'm not going to cast it so it really depends on what they charge me.

It's going to be resin, that much is sure. I'm trying to find someone that uses a good quality material and has the best casting possible.

what i'm sure of is that if I have to charge more to get the best material and casting possible, I'm going to. The thing is I want to offer the best quality I can, I don't plan to live of this, I have a job, but I want to be proud of what I sell, as I do with my regular job.

I commiserate and empathize
