Round 1 is over, time for Round 2.

This time around I'll concede a 750pts advantage to @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER . I will field a 3,250 point Warriors of Chaos + Chaos Dwarfs list against @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER 's 4,000 point Lizardmen + Wood Elves list.

Here is the twist. @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER considers herself to be a subpar list builder. So my idea is to have one of you fine folk create a list for her! If multiple people supply a list, she can choose from among them or you guys could work together to create a single supreme list.

Here are the parameters for the combined army list:
  • choose freely from any combination of Lizardmen & Wood Elves units and characters, while still adhering to core, special, rare etc. requirements. There is no need to choose evenly from the two books.
  • No alliance rules. Treat the two books as if they were literally one combined army book.
  • Army specific magic items can only be selected by characters from the originating army (i.e. an Oldblood can't take a Wood Elf specific magic item)
  • the effects of the general/BSB can affect all units (that lie within range), regardless of which army book they originate from.
  • if we don't have the requisite models, no worries, we'll just use some other models to represent what you've included in your list

I will be using the same combined army house rule to construct my list, but at the reduced 3,250 pts limit and using WoC and CD. We plan to play this Saturday (or maybe Sunday).

Who will take up the cause and assist @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER and who will stand by and simply cheer on your pal @NIGHTBRINGER 's evil forces of Chaos?

Hmm, I haven't written an army list for a few months. Question, are there sufficient miniatures or proxies to represent such possibilities as a Wood Elf Lord on dragon or an Oldblood on carnosaur?

We've got plenty of proxies. So feel free to include any and all units you feel are best!

Speaking of lizardmen, of course we should try to optimize slann and magic, meeting the usual issue of having your precious slann bunkered in your temple guards unit and destroying them by miscasts.

I was fond of Slann with Book of Ashur and Wandering Deliberations.
the book adds +1 to each cast and dispel attempt.
With WD all of the spells are at 10 or less casting cost with boosted versions not that much higher.
The bonus granted by the book lets you cast with two dice every spell, significally reducing your chance of losing concentration or miscast.
you can basically cast 4-6 spells a turn with 2 dices each, and even 1 dice for things as fireball.
It makes opponent's choice "where will i spend my dispel dices?" more difficult.

My main issue with this is that i find it to be an optimal build at 2000 pts, but i have no exp on 4000. A scenario that probably could favor specialized casters.
Your thoughts?

I agree. The Slann seems optimal in the LM+WE build, for magic as well as for a cheap BSB upgrade.

A powerful combination. Death by a thousand cuts. The opposition will have a hard time keeping up with such an output, leading to difficult dispel choices.

In terms of spellcasting, I don't see it that much different between the two points values because in either case we're capped at 2d6 winds of magic power dice. The extra points allotment simply allows the player to invest in a few more upgrades and maybe a little bit more magical backup. I know there were some that dabbled with duel lvl 4's, but I never went down that route.

Tomorrow is game time! :) I should probably get me list in order.

Ok I knocked up a list. Tried to do a list that has some competitive elements, some varied strategic elements and some ideas I think might be fun.

Core Units-1,152 points

4 units of 12 Glade Guard w/arcane bodkins
4 units of 12 Skink Skirmishers, either javs or blowpipes based on preferences

Special Units-1,039 points

36 Temple Guard, FC, Razor Standard

10 Wild Riders, FC, shields, Banner of Eternal Flame
4 Terradon Riders

Rare Units-580 points

Ancient Stegadon w/unstoppable stampede and sharpened horns

2 Giant Eagles

10 Waywatchers

Lords-954 points

Slann Mage Priest w/Soul of Stone, Becalming Cogitation, Focus of Mystery. BSB, Book of Ashur

Saurus Oldblood, Fencer's Blades, Talisman of Preservation, Potion of Strength and light armor

Spellweaver, LVL 4, asrai longbow and Dark Magic

Heros-275 points

Naestra & Arahan on giant eagle.

Thank you @Krox_v.2 !!! :):):):):):) I will pass the list on to @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER .

We've shifted the game to next weekend, which will give @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER a bit more time to familiarize herself with the army. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Tomorrow is the big game. Here is my list:

well, it's a nasty list. The troll's deathstar IMO serves a double scope:
1) it's a deathstar, that needs to be "faced" properly, even avoiding it
2) it's a great distraction that can potentially drive the opponent's attention away from other dangerous units... until it's too late.
Yea I have doubts on how the list I wrote will do against it.

Trollstar, skullcrushers, chimera and demon prince (albeit in different numbers) were a staple also in @NIGHTBRINGER previous list, played in round 1, so it was not a surprise.

this time, things are worsened by the presence of certain units of chaos dwarfs (again, hardly an unexpected thing)

I did consider that to some degree with giving the wild riders the banner of eternal flame to strip regen, as well as the 48 skinks for masses of poison shots. I just think I should have used the points I dropped on the ancient steg's upgrades to add more glade guard and skinks. Maybe another giant eagle for redirecting.

The Trollstar did indeed cause trouble... lots of glorious trouble.

You have a keen memory. I directly used my previous WoC list as the base for this one. I simply tweaked a few things to make room for some Chaos Dwarf stuff, which was taken from my primary Chaos Dwarf army list.

Worsened is a relative term. One person's worsened is another person's improved. ;):p;)

It was a solid list, and @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER enjoyed it. For one, you are a stronger list builder than she is. And two, she doesn't like the list-building aspect of the hobby. I can tell you that she was very appreciative to have a ready made list provided for her.

And in case you guys are wondering how the game went, I can summarize it with..
There is no escape from Chaos. It marks us all. :D

I only took a single photo of the game (@Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER took a battlefield shot at the beginning of the game), what do you guys think of this for luck?

  • @Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER fires her poisoned javelins from a unit of 12 skink skirmishers at my unit of Skullcrushers
  • she gets two poisoned shots, and manages to wound with a non-poisoned hit, for 3 wounds total
  • no problem, I've got a 1+ armour save, so I'm saving on 2's. What's the worst that could happen?...
Here are my three saving throws...

The odds of that happening are 1 in 216. As a percentage that is 0.46%. We had a good laugh at that one. The Chaos gods can be fickle.
