You want rare earth magnets, they come in various sizes just google it or put it in ebay. Typical sizes for this hobby 1mm * 4mm some examples...
Maybe try glazing him, go thin coats that way you can build up a hint of colour, 10/1 mix is about right (water/colour)
They all look good so far, I'm not so sure about that grey skink looks chalky but that could be the camera.
If your not feeling it don't do it, it will be a nightmare when you start painting them,maybe buy a solo character and paint it?
