You can mix them in open play if I recall.

Alot depends on your playstyle and tactics you intend on using but some units have an optimal weapon, skinks with boltspitter and shield come to mind.

I have around a 2500 point army for Salamanders, Goblins and Undead all multibased, painted and rdy to go. But Archie is now wanting to play AOS...
