Hmmm... I do tend to use square flat brushes for layering and drybrushing... I find they give you a little more control than a round brush for...
I used probaly 3 or so colors to build up the red, (dark/medium/highlight) than I used the purple wash to blend everything together, hmm I hight...

The Trog might be a decent arcane vassal in a Lord Kroak list, since his spell is direct damage.
I think that was the origional digital size by the look of it, anything you scan will likely be of lower quality. I would just digitaly enlarge...
