Funny thing happened to me today: I went to the Games Workshop store to meet with @Mesandres and play a 1k game. So I packed a Shadowstrike with six Terradons, 50 Skinks, Astrolith Bearer, Starpriest and Priest ....but the day did not go as expected! There was an AoS event in the store. Six players, one table, 500 points each, six rounds. Whoever holds the objective in the middle after the sixth round wins the game. So I improvised a 500 points list: Starpriest, Astrolith, 40 Skinks, 10 Skinks. The other armies were two Brute-heavy Ironjawz lists, Fyreslayers with a Magmadroth, a Khorne force with Bloodwarriors and a Demon Prince, and a SCE force that mainly had Liberators and some Prosecutors in the clouds. It was a pretty interesting fight, with several players fighting near the middle. I had the only list with shooting and magic. So I shot the Ironjawz that had claimed the middle. It took a while. I think I spent three rounds doing that. The demons fought the Dwarves, the Ironjawz fought each other, and I... well, I mainly ran away from the SCE. I was really lucky because the SCE player rolled rather badly. He couldn't bring his reinforcements in and he killed very few Skinks. In the last round I managed to use the Skinks' retreat ability to get past the heroes that were near the middle and claimed the objective with 34 Skinks. We did the math quickly and came to the conclusion that unless everyone rolled perfectly they wouldn't do enough damage to kill all those Skinks, so suddenly everyone was shaking my hand and I was declared Store Champion! I got this card: It says "Store Champion" on one side and "Challenge me!" on the other. So now people can declare a challenge to claim the title by beating me in some form of AoS combat (the store has my number to call me then because I don't use Facebook). ....I admit I am not very keen on defending it though. I rarely play at the store and I am not very competitive to begin with. We will see. I will definitely try and give people the opportunity to win the title from me in a fair game.
Never count out an underdog! Only thing that would have made it better is having the “store champion” title being a big gold belt like in pro wrestling.
Posting this here as well: Just for laughs, it is just a 5 minute job. My Necromancers decided to have some fun while raising undead on a graveyard. Skeleton jousting! In other news: I did some work on my Terradons and on the base of my second Bastiladon. I'll post some pics of them next week.
Here is my Sunblood. Base is still missing though. I like how the shield looks now, except that when viewed from a distance you cannot see the highlights well. The weapon has some freehand lightning effects on it because IMO it looked too boring otherwise. The skin is....almost like I wanted it to be. A tiny bit too blue but good enough so I decided to keep it. It was important for me that the Sunblood looks quite different from the other Saurus. Here are some of my other Saurus Heroes for comparison: Next up: some undead!
WIP. Might become my entry for the Monster Mash contest. But I might also finally finish my Bastiladon and enter that one. Still undecided. Edit: image not showing, standby...
A few people have asked me about my Kraken Gaming Mat. Here are a few pics: The mat is 6x4 feet big (there are also 4x4', 6x3' and 3x3' ones), and made out of mousepad material. So it is pretty flat, waterproof (also beer-proof. I tested that myself) easy to clean, and you can move your miniatures very easily. The underside is rubber so it doesn't move on the table. This design is called River Valley IIRC. There are different other ones available as well. My table is a bit too small so it hangs down a bit but that's no problem. I roll it up and put it back into its box after use. The mats are designed in Europe by actually building a terrain, taking photos of it and using some Photoshop action to make them look nice. They are then printed in China. It was a Kickstarter project and I read that the first editions had some problems with the colors, but they improved and mine looks pretty great. Delivery may take some time, but at least for Germany they teamed with Fantasywelt.de and they have most mats in stock, most of the time as far as I can tell. The printing quality is great, a lot better than most mats I have seen. The price is 75€. Here are two links: https://krakenwargames.com/ https://www.fantasywelt.de/Kraken-Mats
That looks amazing! Great for jungle terrain! I'll have to keep that one in mind for my inevitable gaming expansion.... Thanks for posting!
Thank you! The best about it is that it is magnetized. There are tiny magnets in the ring and the ground so I can use the parts and transform my Stegadon into an EotG.
One thing I find kind of weird: how will he blow the horn/trumpet with no lungs? On the other hand he's a skeleton marching to war... so I guess he'll manage playing his instrument somehow... Nice work !
