That is just one awesome reference, I love that film! The skeksis are my favorites. Regarding the color of the color of the slann, my view is that the slann is perfect to have something completely different to difference him from the rest of the army. But with some accent colors to tie in with the rest of the bunch. Oh and about the skink scale color, I like the third from left best!
I also liked that skink, that's why I painted the sauri (more or less) the same way. Good point about the slann colour. I also think I might change the plans for my temple guard a bit. Keep the turquoise skin and lots of bronze but have the details match the slann. Maybe even make the scale purple and think of something else for the cavalry... Not sure about that yet. I'm personally more a fan of the Mystics/urRu And I think their solemn, mystical character is quite fitting for a slann. Think I'll use their sandpainting as inspiration for the base: I really love this part of the movie (the swamp): Link Wonder if I could do anything with that.
Yes the mystics are more fitting for the slann, I agree. And the sandpainting is great to incorporate in bases but they could be used as tatoo's and such as well. You could totally use swamp inspiration for you chameleons and skinks.
Haven't painted anything in a while, but I found some time and felt like trying my idea for the Temple Guard shields. So here it is: The flash makes some parts look shinier than they are, but I'm thinking about getting matte and gloss varnish so I can control what's shiny or not Edit: Started on two more shields
Thanks for your replies! The middle one is also the most finished one. I've done some work on the other two since then. Still too many other priorities to really get anything done though.
Welcome to my world, I got loads of lizards just waiting for some love, but like you I lack the time Oh, just a bit of advice. Your gold paint seems a bit "flakey", blend a small amount of water in it for more even layers Looking forward to see more of your work
I found some time again and decided to try out a colour scheme for my TG Followed your advice and gave him some more contrast than the sauri. I still have to decide what to do with the back spikes. Sorry for the low picture quality, I'll take pictures with a good camera and daylight again when I've got some models finished. And here's a more finished picture of those shields from earlier:
Found a tiny bit of time again ^_^ That guy has already played his first match, despite missing his right arm.
I REALLY like that shield!! Keep up the good work! This is a good blog to visit as your color scheme is pretty original and I like your painting! - Lord Cedric
It's a golden/bronze tooth. If you look closely, you can see part of the real tooth underneath. Look, it's a quality picture for a change! Should really start to think about basing for these guys...
I suggest that you use GM grass and some rock in your yard(park, forrest or anything like that) . That is how i do it(plus some skulls from my brothers dark elves). Let us know of the results.
i suggest get some sand (from the nearest playground or beach) and glue that with PVA. paint it a dark brown. then buy maybe one or two kinds of static grass, and/or some other kind of flock and apply that in patches. gale force nine has some great variety, and so does the army painter (and plenty of others) http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=cat&cre=hob-gf9-scn http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=cat&cre=hob-tap-bat buying tufts look absolutely great, but i would only use it on the front rank models and monsters, cause its kinda expensive. spending a bit extra time on the bases can really make an army "pop". best of luck
