Hello Im new to the forum and to the Wargames genre . I was gonna start with a Seraphon warband, but I was thinking what would be best, I saw just primer and 2 contrast paints (talassar blue and warp lightning I believe) you could pretty much make a perfect seraphon very easily quickly and look nice. But I was thinking of buying a nice bunch of vallejo paints...I dont feel that contrast are the same, so contrast blue wouldnt substitute flat blue paint. But contrast seems to really POP and Im afraid of not getting that result with the vallejo ones. My question, I want to personalize my lizards, to make a nice warband were I take some time with them. For that and for later use, should I go vallejo paints or contrast? (not just contrast ) . Or could I use both ? or is that redundant for lizards that already have such shiny colours.
I've not used the contrast paints but they do look effective and aimed at getting your models looking good fast, nothing will replace painting a model slowly and with precision. Using Vallejo and contrast paints together? absolutely I use different paints all the time, use what you want where you want they are your models. Lizards are unique only your imagination is your limit.
Contrast give you a decent basis from which to work if you're after quick results. If you want to take your time over something then I would just skip them. There are plenty of Vallejo paints with the vibrancy of undilluted Contrast, so I wouldn't worry about that.
I've been using Vallejo for a long time and just got contrast, they provide excellent results. Bassicly, they are base coat and wash in one. So your choices are, contrast, then highlight/drybrush if desired, or layer, wash, highlight/dry brush. Also, contrast cares A LOT what color your primer is, where the Vallejo can work past that by building layers. This is an example of all contrast paints, no highlights, with the exception of the metal, which is auric gold with Agrax earthshade over it.
The contrast paints create surprisingly deep shadows. Very interesting, thanks for posting, @Wytchphyre77 EDIT: Oh, and welcome to Lustria, @Acehaphon of Roses !
