Hi

I have decided to start a paint log to motivate myself to paint more frequently. That is is a must if Im gonna finish my unpainted models anytime in the close future.

Ok, so Im gonna start with my carno, its a work in progress. Monster is done but saddle and character left to do.

Im not a pro painter so advices and comments would be welcome.

That looks amazing! What colour scheme are you going to use on the rider? What are you going to do with the base?

I don't know yet. My reg. saurus is blue, but I will not go with that. I think. Either really dark or very light. Ex, whitish grayish.
I have to think about it.

It's a challenge. I'd go with the process of elimination. You probably don't want blue then the rider would be too hard to distinguish from the Carnosaur. You probably don't want red because then he'd clash so much he'd look like he didn't belong. I'm sure you have colors you aren't fond of. In situations like this, I tend to go through the basic Crayola box to narrow it down to a short list THEN figure out what shade or variant of the winning colors to use.

If you want the complimentary colour, that would be orange. If you want a sort of natural look, green or yellow could look cool (the old saying of blue and green must never be seen without a colour in between is more of a fashion statement, when it comes to lizards, I think blue and green look kind of cool).

It does somewhat depend how many colours you think you'll have on the model all together. Picking the perfectly complimentary colour is only a good idea if you plan on having 2 colours and any other colour is only going to be a spot colour. If you think you'll have a 3rd major colour (even browns and such) sometimes it's best to go to a colour off to the side of the colour wheel rather than complimentary.

I made that mistake with my 'nids, picked 3 colours that loosely made up 3 parts of the colour wheel... now I need to figure out another colour to paint things and I can't figure out anything that won't clash, lol.

Thanks for the advice. I will think about that. Im not really good with colors, like what is complementary and such. I always go with my feeling.

Thank you. That is something to use for me.

I checked on my "inspiration pic" for the carno before and the rider was red. I don't think I want that tho since I don't have a single red model in the army.

I think an orange rider, as AllSeeingSkink suggested, would look amazing! Maybe with a white belly? If you need to see how it can look, check out my painting blog on my signature. On page 9, towards the end, there's pictures of my Stegadon, that has orange scales and white underbelly. Anyway, good luck with your painting! I'm very curious to see what you come up with!

Ok,

So lets say I go with orange and white belly, that does force me to paint something orange on all the saurus, right? To give it all something in common.
Would it be enough you think to just add some orange on top of their heads? Maybe the spikes as well?

Im starting to regret painting it blue, due to all the eventual extra work. I found a blue and grayish carno and really liked it. Thats why mine turned out like this too. I really like the color on my carno tho and I hope I can do something good with the oldblood.

A lot of work now and probably for the coming 1-2 weeks too so I guess painting will be going slow for a while.

You can of course paint some orange accents on the normal saurus, and I think that would look cool. But if you don't want to, I don't think it's necessary. All my heroes are of distinct colours from the foot soldiers. The reasoning being, that they are of much older patch of spawning, and the only ones still alive from that spawning. But, if you don't like it artistically, then adding some orange (or, painting all the saurus orange, like the raider. Or whatever colour you choose.) would do just fine.

Ok,
So some painting has been done. My carno with rider is finished except for the base. I went with orange like some people suggested. I guess I have to practice more with using orange/ yellow. I think it got a "dirty" look.
Maybe he fell off his mount before the photo…

Still Im quite pleased with it.

If the carno is slain and the rider is still alive. Have you magnetized his feet somehow to be able to put him on a 25 mm base or have you painted a similar OB/SV on foot to use as a replacement? Or maybe just use some leftover rank and file saurus?

Working on my rippers now.

To this moment I have been really impressed with how GW makes all the different parts in the kits fit very good together, like the steg and the carno. The rippers tho…completely different story…Only four more to glue left.

Have you had the same issue with parts not fitting well?

I found that my Ripper's actually went together pretty easily - however, I did find that the instruction guide is a little misleading. For instance, I was pretty sure that the Skink riders in the instructions aren't matched to same Rippers that the are in all the pictures.

I bought two of the Carnosaur kits and built a Troglodon out of one. I just couldn't resist building and painting that gorgeous model. This left me with a Saurus hero/lord on foot that I use when (not if) the Carnosaur is blown out from under his feet.

That being said, I seem to remember the model being sculpted in such a way that you could build the legs separately and magnetize the torso so that it can sit on the legs in the saddle or on the legs "on-foot." I know really wish I had thought of that before...
