Today I bring you a small treat, this is not my list but is a list that WON the King in the North Tournament.

It's not exactly the list as it was made by an opponent from memory but it seems its pretty close.

I'm going to say it, that is a very weird list!

    Enjoy!

As long as I know, it was a three game event, scenarios where: Push, Control and Pillage

One correction-the Mage Priest had Talisman of Inspiring, not Bane Chant. Two sources of inspiring were awkward enough as it was, one would have been a real struggle, especially one as easily removed as a Herald.

So that makes the 2000 point mark then.

Was your list? If so tell us more about how it played...

Yes it's mine, and a lot of the weirdness is because it's not actually finished-I originally planned a much bigger focus on the fighting infantry, but only having managed to paint 20 of the 60 models in my Clan of fire I was forced to compromise by putting in some Ghekkotah as inert filler. This left me slightly lacking in melee power, but I compensated somewhat by upgrading the two troops I had to ancients. I've found with dwarves that troops of shieldbreakers are very potent melee support, and salamander primes are basically the same unit with Pathfinder-Ancients pay a bit extra, but get Me3+ and benefit a lot at that size from the extra point of nerve and fearless, and they didn't disappoint me-like the shieldbreakers, they can do a lot of damage entering the melee as a second line, as well as having good freedom of movement to get where I want them and claim objectives. The Battle-Captains are yet more me3+, CS(2) attacks with the versatility to aid the combat I want them in, while the Unblooded horde and Tyrants give me two units that are a powerful melee threat in their own right. In short, I have a lot of melee killing power and the ability to concentrate it as needed.
The horde is Unblooded instead of primes because it's likely to end up drawing the sort of attack that will level either in one round(happened twice in three games), so best to keep it cheap, and without pathfinder they pose a similar melee threat.
The Ember Sprites, one of the most under-rated units in the game, provide potent ranged back up with their breath weapons when combined with the two characters, which cover a lot of the weaknesses of the infantry, while also being able to contest objectives or specific scoring areas and still participate in the battle.
The Greater Elemental can add more high CS Melee or breath attacks as needed, and presents an opponent with a big block of fearless nerve. I could perhaps have been better served by a Fire Drake with its more solid ranged presence, or if I could free a lot of points a Clan Lord on Fire Drake which would serve as another source of inspiring, but I was working with the model I had, and it did OK.
The Komodons are in the list as a ranged presence that can hold objectives near my deployment zone, remembering that the tournament included both Pillage and Control, but actually proved surprisingly flexible in being able to pitch in with some combat support, or even just use their Ht4 to keep an enemy flying monster confined for a turn. Artillery minus the key weaknesses-another badly underrated unit in my opinion.

Perhaps most importantly, I had a good amount of help from the dice, particularly in game two where I made an embarasing number of mistakes and, to be honest, got somewhat bailed out by favourable dice rolls.

Very good understanding of KOW and you have proved with your list that Salamanders have hidden talents.

    I need to play more.......
