So my brother has been working on his custom Catan pieces for some time now , and he is basically complete with the base game. Recently he has been adding knight figures (for the Knights/Barbarians expansion) made out of cast Warhammer pieces, and he has finally added the Lizardmen!

They are all made from leftover Lizardmen heads/weapons bits from my saurus warriors/temple guard, donated to the glorious Catan cause! The lizardmen serve as the knight pieces, here are the rest of them:

Boats, roads, fortresses, cities, and settlements. The lizardmen are green (of course) and my brother has made a few different factions for the other colors from other Warhammer armies we have collected (mostly combinations of Wood Elves and Bretonnians).

Here is the board at the start of our last recent game:

And here is the game when it was finally complete, with a resounding Lizardmen victory!

As you can see, he has made tons of sea tiles as well as "cloud" tiles, which represent those tiles that have not yet been explored by the players. Each cloud tile has the name of one of the other resources underneath it, so when they are explored you can just flip them over and see what you have found, whether it is a forest, mountain, desert, or even a gold mine!

At the end of the game we went ahead and revealed the rest of the tiles to see what the entire continet would have looked like:

I hope you like the pictures, the game is a lot of fun to play, I am proud of all the effort my brother has put into it! :vulcan:

Love the custom hexagonal tiles! They’d be great for a Blood in the Badlands campaign! How did your brother make them, may I ask?

The Fog of War feature is an interesting twist.

He got the idea after playing Civilization V (computer game using a hex-based system).

It was a several-month project:

  • He built the tiles themselves using particle board from a home improvement store, it took him a while to cut it into hexes and then sand it down for an even finish.
  • The hills, mountains, and "brick" tiles were all made using foam covered in plaster cloth to give them a smooth appearance.
  • Basing and flocking for the wood tiles and the pastures (green sheep hills), plus the trees were bought en-masse with discount coupons from art supplies stores. The trees could also probably be purchased from a place where you can buy model railroad scenery as I believe that is what they were originally for.
  • The "wheat" tiles were simple, he took a ton of old paint brushes, cut them up, and arrayed the brush fibers in rows to look like fields!
  • After all the assembly, several layers of paint of course, with multiple test trials to improve the look

That is a good point; we used to play warhammer campaigns on just drawn maps, something like this would be much more impressive

Ha love it!! Caftan is super addictive, love the themed sets !

Played an epic game of (Christmas) Catan with my brother and my wife the other day on his amazing 3D catan board... and the Lizardmen won again!

He is also working on a new homebrew expansion: Disasters!

Here are some glaciers, swamps, earthquakes, and burnt forests:

And some volcanos, as well as some "wonders" Mount Olympus and Hobbiton:
