Malign Portents

It is admittedly a far from perfect metric, but when it comes to movie popularity there are no perfect sources. If it was standing alone and in opposition to the remaining evidence then I would accept your argument. However, there is obvious backlash against the movie across multiple mediums/channels. Take your pick of social media, YouTube, etc., and you will find the same story playing out. The counter argument of the "vocal minority" only goes so far. When there is this much smoke, there must be fire.
O there's definitly thing things you can say are wrong about the movies, but people forget that the first few weren't exactly perfect either. Star wars especially suffers from very rosetinted glasses, the lord of the rings movies probably have a similar issue. Both being the only movies that were really succesfull in the respect genre..

As for vocal minority; generally if it's this biased especially on reviewsites on he internet, it's nearly Always people blowing stuff waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion. Especially since the last decade or so using the internet has become properly mainstream and it's no longer just the nerds arguing about the specifics of something they like but people activly trying to tear down projects. Way too much bandwaggoning, and people just generally being rude #@*$^online since that happenend...

That is ultimately the problem with any beloved franchise. People take "ownership" of it and have an emotionally vested interest in it. They have a vision for it, and when new material is introduced that contradicts that vision, there is inevitable backlash.
Meh, the group moaning about star wars tends to be particularly vile though.. Though there's similar groups in any fanbase I suppose. Star wars probably just has the bad luck of being main stream enough to draw out the troll in far more people than most series... Plus, it's famous enough for it to pop up everywhere..

It's a difficult if not impossible tightrope to walk. How do balance the opposing forces of remaining true to the source material and at the same time keeping things fresh/new?

There are no doubt, but 175,000 votes is pretty substantial, especially when supported by a multitude of other sources. I don't think I'm off the mark when I say that many people hated the movie. At the same time, many people really enjoyed the movie. My point is that the feelings regarding the movie are anything but uniform, it is controversial to say the least.
O there's a decent chunk of people disliking it sure, and probably a good deal that hate it. But these sites are notorious for troll votes. People voting 10 cuz it's their favorite franchise, or vote 0 because stormtrooper #546 was wearing sneakers and it totally ruined the immersion and the entire movie...
Not to mention that these sites tend to attract a certain type of person to vote multiple times.. frankly the user reviews on movies (and games) online tend to be absolute garbage cuz of it...

Also @NIGHTBRINGER

Hehe my Star Wars comment was really a bit tongue in cheek. I am aware there are people who have WAY more extreme opinions about entertainment products than they should. Which is why the Star Wars fits pretty well as an example.

That's fair enough. Your comment looks to have massively derailed this thread! :p

@Xasto @Canas @Aginor
Let us all agree:
Some people LOVED The Last Jedi and some people HATED it. Some people LOVE AoS and some people (:angelic:) HATE it.

Both evoke very strong emotions/reactions; positive and negative!

Yeah I think we all can live with that. :)

So let's get back to topic. I saw we have a new video on the MP page but I couldn't watch it yet. Curious ehat it is this time.

What, they are not done yet? I thought MP amounted to 4 character models and a Splat Book.

no there's a campaign thing around it. For example there's some thing about painting a start collecting box before some date and then they'l tell you what to paint next.

That's how I understood it as well. It is the new chapter of the Age of Sigmar narrative. It will be an ongoing thing for a while driving the story forward.
Think of it like an expansion for an MMO PC game. It doesn't invalidate the other content but adds to it and it evolves for a while adding stuff until the next one comes.

So (to those that have followed closely) what does it consist of so far?

(...very much wanting a giant bullhorn to descend from a cloudbank above Nottingham so that a thunderous voice can bellow:

GET ON WITH IT !! )

I think the painting thing is not really a part of MP, just of the marketing campaign for it.

As for MP itself:
We know it will be a book and we know that there will be at least those four new models we have seen already. We also have the MP website that has a lot of information about the realms and some stories and videos about the characters, the world, and a few behind the scenes interviews.
Next story is scheduled for January 26th.

...and that reminds me that I haven't read the one from yesterday yet...

 :cyclops:

:sorry:
Talk about pay-to-play... :greedy:
its supposed to be a kinda guide to making an army and Id assume they'l eventually include the new models a options. But yeah, they want you to buy aaaaalll the stuff :P

The painting competition has started for Malign Portents, looks like the second month you have to introduce the Harbinger, which for Order is the new SCE guy.
Not sure if it will fit with my Chaq'Kai fluff or not, they are not the types to tag along with other armies.

well that is how the game works isn't it? Buy all the models, 10 times over, then crush your opponent under the sheer weight of em :p

It has always been a valid tactic in many editions of warhammer ;)
