AoS has just got me back into the hobby after a very long hiatus. I’ve decided to make a Seraphon army and this is my first attempt at painting in a long time.

Comment and criticism is welcomed please! I’ve got a lot more of these skinks to paint so anything I learn now will be massively useful!

I’ve not varnished them yet (in case any tips on what to change come out of this post). When they’re varnished I’ll add some grass tufts to the bases.

    Welcome to Lustria!

    Good job on those Skinks.
The two things that come to mind:
    - if you have the required precision you should give them pupils. I also left them out initially on mine, but in the end I added them and my Skinks look so much cooler now.
    - the material on your bases is quite thin. It does look cool close up with the crackles, but for the future you should consider putting another layer (a millimeter or so will do) of something below the crackle paint, or use the crackle paint a tad more thickly. Especially in those spots where you can see the slots.

This is great help thank you!

Good idea on the pupils! I’ll give it a go. Did you do black slits?

Yeah I was disappointed with the bases too. It was my first time using the crackle paint and I thought I piled it on! Apparently I can go more gung-ho! What material would you suggest between the base and the crackle paint?

Yes I just drew them one with a pen actually.
    Similar to this one:
    https://www.jetpens.com/Staedtler-Pigment-Liner-Marker-Pen-0.1-mm-Black/pd/7937

It doesn't dry instantly (at least mine doesnt) so if you make an error you can just wipe it away.

As for the bases... no clue. A buddy of mine makes bases like that and he just puts the crackle paint on more thickly I think.
But I guess you might as well be able to use a mixture of fine sand and PVA glue to add some thickness. I just don't know how the cracked paint reacts with it.
