I started playing Warhammer back in 6th ed but took a break when I went to college. Then GeeWubs murdered the Fantasy setting I loved. However, about a month ago I found the 9th Age (right as I was moving) and now I have a reason to wake my cold blooded legion from its torpor. I plan to start a painting blog because I will feel compelled to update it which should counteract my laziness (hopefully). I may even be motivated enough to write down my army's fluff, their from the Southlands and I intend to use more Inca influence then Lizardmen usually have.

P.S. Can anyone tell me why Skinks don't use Atlatls or Slings?

Welcome aboard! Hopefully we can help you out with 9th age questions, I won't be much help there, but we do have an active fluff forum, so feel free to post away! There is a short story comp that you still have time to enter if you're up to the challenge.

    The contest rules are here:
    October-November 2016 Short Story Contest
Or you can just create a new post in the fluff forum if you feel like just posting up a story or army fluff.

    Welcome!
I, too, wish Skinks had atlatls. But I guess their javelins are the closest we get.

My gaming group and I made the switch to 9th Age right off the bat, and haven't looked back. I look forward to discussing it with you, and seeing your paint log!

Yes I will first have to replace all my paints as they are about 5 years old. I've heard good things about Reaper.

Why is that? I have paints that are 15 years old and still good.

    Atlatls:
I am thinking it is for the same reason Greek peltast skirmishers and Roman auxiliaries didn't use them.

Turns out the Greeks and the Romans had something called an "amentum". Same function but it also imparted spin: therefore superior.

I suppose WH rules just assume all javelin/spear chucking troops are all already using amentum or something similar.

    Slings:
The sling is only found among Skaven and Gnoblars.

A better question is how did Skinks suddenly forget how to craft bows between 6th and 7th editions? Particularly since most other WH armies have bows.

I had just assumed that they'd have dried up, but now I have to check.

    @pendrake
I was taking about the models when referring to the Atlatl, I can see I wrote that poorly, but if we're talking function then the Atlatl improves range and armor penetration. As for slings, they were very common in Aztec warfare so why shouldn't skinks use them if the Lizardmen are based off them. The Skinks didn't forget how to make bows, just the smaller version. But yah its stupid, bows are just a must and luckily 9th Age brought them back (yay).

Sometimes you can revitalize dried up paint (depends on how dry it is). A little bit of water or better yet some thinner medium can do wonders.

You may also find that some of your paints are perfectly fine. It comes down to how well they were sealed. Interestingly enough, the really old GW paint pots were the best at maintaining paint. I recently a purchased a mixed bag of warhammer stuff and among the collection was one of these:

The paint must be about 20 years old and is perfectly fine... no revitalization required. :)

I think all javelineers abandon Atlatls once they learn this:
It improves range, and armor penetration, and it imparts spin for stability, and it is easier to craft. I am comfortable assuming all the warhammer armies moved on to what the Romans called an Aumentum.

Slings though....It is harder to think of a rationale why slings would not exist/be unused.

20 years old is just flat out impressive. I have the black snap lid pots so they might have sealed them selves, I remember them doing that back when I was painting.

    @pendrake
Aren't javelins only used by Lizardmen, WoC, and (maybe) Orcs. Out of those 3 I can only see the Lizardmen making a throwing aid, and while the Aumentum does seem to be just better the Atlatl is just so Aztec. Of course from a military perspective Lizardmen have more in common with ancient Greek infantry and Persian cavalry so you could make that argument for the Aumentum.

Some skinks still use giant bows on stegadons I believe they don't use hand held ones because...makes up some gw waffle to generate more income ...so you see we have to make you buy alternate models so you can replace all your old ones

Money makes sie world go round, sie world go round, and makes skinks forget small scale bow manufacturing.

    Welcome to the forums!

Atl-atls improve penetrating power but I don't think they are great for accuracy. Since Lustrian javelins rely on posion. Hitting power if less important. Still, I would love to see models with atl-atls. I really like to see what you come up with for Incan based Lizardmen. Whatever your needs are, we got you covered.

Painting and converting. We got you covered. Tips and techniques, honest but polite critiques and models to inspire you. We got it.

Gameplay. We cover tactics, list building and battle reports for 8th Edition Warhammer, 9th Age Warhammer, Age of Sigmar Warhammer, and Kings of War.

We have fiction, aka fluff pieces. It's mostly 8th Edition/Age of Sigmar but we welcome all fluff. It doesn't have to be reptilian, it doesn't even need to be gaming.

And We got forums to talk about memes, Star Wars, and whatnot.

Thanks for the welcome. While I initially was really into the Inca idea I've come to realize that the Lizardmen military is heavily based on that of ancient Macedonia and Greece (both of which I adore). So I figure I'll run with that. I now wish Sauri could get pikes.

No slings per se but the terradon riders can equip bolas.

oh, dang a quote from Wikipedia about Atlatl...

"In modern times, some people have resurrected the dart thrower for sports, often using the term atlatl, throwing either for distance and/or for accuracy. The World Atlatl Association was formed in 1987[16] to promote the atlatl.[17] Throws of almost 260 m (850 ft) have been recorded."

    also

    "A spear-thrower is a long-range weapon and can readily impart to a projectile speeds of over 150 km/h (93 mph).[3]"
