The tiniest change would have disrupted Palpatine's grand plan entirely.

I guess the expanded lore suggests Palpatine manipulated the Force to guide Anakin's destiny but if he had that kind of power to manipulate grand events, he could have used a a less complicated plan.

Most of Voldomort's plans seem overly complicated too.

When reading the Potter books or any of the Star Wars added information you really get the idea that the villains really don't want to win.
