Cheers Warden appreciate the kind words. Trying to get back into it is always fun
So i think im close to finishing my bastiladon.. This is the 1st minature that ive ever done a basing for and it was hard to decide on what too much decoration and what wasnt enough lol...so i thought id give him a swampy theme.. Anyway ill post all the pics and please let me know if its too much or not enough cheers...
ive tried out some stuff i found at the local hobby store called AK water gel swamp green
glued down 2 large rocks for the front feet to plant on and the swamp green gel.. starts off a creamy white then goes to a darker green as it slowly dries
ive snapped a small twig from outside to make it look like the bastiladon has smashed through it and broken it down
a standing tree with rocks and moss
added some stones into the back and a larger one to the front
final product for now.. the white gel look will darken up and go green with a little time
.. just feel like it needs a little something at the front and right side.. maybe some sand or moss what do you think??
That water gel stuff looks interesting! Next time I would definitely build the base up and apply that last. I wouldn't go OTT on adding stuff to the front, you don't want to distract people from the model itself.
If I could offer any other advice it would be to paint the other additions ot the base such as the foliage and branches... At the moment they look like stuff stuck on the base, not part of the base itself.
cheers Ritual... yeah iv tried to place the green gel onto the rocks to make them look like its lapping onto the rocks.. definately looks like ive missed a few cheers.. when the green gel dries ill try and touch it up abit around the bottom where the sand at the back meets the swamp and ill paint the rocks as well..And definately paint the branches and trees to make it fit in more.. thanks for that appriciate the tip
Also love the old style paint pots, brings back memories!
This guy has some nice water effect vids
So decided to add some dry brushing to the swamp on the bastiladon
Also started on my skink bases
This the base after painting it
And this is after placing some resin on it to TRY and achieve a wet, flowing effect
And a couple more done
Good work mate! Really nice bases. Do you use actual rocks for your rocks? It's a silly question but I was curious. I have found that bark or cork makes for better rocks than actually rocks. It can be really cheap or free (walk outside or go to a store and ask for a sample). Maybe worth trying if you're not satisfied with your current aesthetic.
I see a very green Stegadon hiding in the background Looking forward to seeing that one!!
Hey Joshua with the skinks ive used a mix of real stones and hot glue mounds.. I've noticed alot of peopke using cork, so i might give it a go cheers
All personal preference! Cork and bark do make better pieces for dry brushing. No round edges!
And that's the unit finished
Also finished my slann.. though im not really happy with the paint job. I really hate painting on finecast.. but it is what it is i guess
And onto my 2nd unit of skinks. Just gotta do some touch ups on the paint . Teeth and claws and bases.
Nice work on those. I like the little rainbow feathers.
So been working on my slann base coming along. Pretty happy with the result so far
Im gonna try using VMS smart mud on the base
So this is the base as i go along
so still not quite finished got 1 snake and the 2 skinks to finish painting then glue it down
