Wow, it has been a long time. Too much hammerin' and not enough painting! Anyways, here is a few pics of my first completed Terradon! I have second done and 3rd on the way:
nice one, but i think the base would look even better with a little more green on it. really marvellous paint job though (as usual )
Terradons! Note: They aren't quite THAT neon. It was overcast and my pic was really dark so I had to lighten it up. Thanks for looking! -Div
Cool to see you still posting! These look great as well, and I really like the updates on the Slann. I am aiming to put lightning on mine as well, might have to try that scheme!
love your work, espically on the slann, i was just wandering how you came across that lighning blue colour, are you using gw paints cause iv been trying for ages to use that colour on my salies for highlights and it just aint working! lustria
Thanks everyone. Second steg is almost complete and then I only have a handful of Saurus to finish for my 2500 tournament this month. @ lustria - The lightning blue is all GW colors. Started with 50/50 Shadow Gray / Regal Blue, then went slowly from 50/50 Shadow Gray / Ice Blue up to White / Ice Blue. Lots of thin layers of paint and as the color got brighter, the lines got smaller =).
cheers divinor, ill have ago tonight or at the weekend. looking forward to seeing more of your work! lustria
Another small update: The howda is done now. Time to paint the crew tonight! Question: What color should I make the feathers on the howda? Orange? White? Teal? Thanks! -Div
I want to say white, but I guess it depends on how much attention you want them to pull. Looking absolutely stunning, btw. As always.
i really like the feel to your army a lot, the stega done that have blue body and green plates. i found that one to be sweet man. will follow your blog as well
Thanks guys! muffin, I love your avatar. 2nd Stegadon complete: Decided to stick with white for the feathers (thanks Rokanos!). I forgot to add the little half circle thing for the bolt thrower but I kind of like the way it looks without it. WIP Saurus with hand weapons: This is the last unit of the army. After these guys it is clean up and a display board for the army! Almost finished with another army, yeehaaa!! Thanks for looking! -Div
really nice work as usual however, i dont quite understand why you chose to paint the horns of the stegadon like that. i would understand if you wanted them dark, but with that super sharp highlight only at the bottom? it looks weird to me and not at all as good as everything else you have done. ps. i truly enjoy the color of your sauri. they look incredibly ferocious, and the NMM is really well done too. pps. will you post the army list when you are done?
Thanks Lord Tsunami! You aren't the first one to question the style of the horns. I originally tried regular bone colored horns but I felt that there was just too much brown / bone going on on the model. I really want the bleach bone styled weapons / armor to stand out and the horns took away from that. I agree that my solution isn't the best and hopefully will have some time to experiment with some dark brown / grays to see if I can come up with something better. The list: Please note this is a really mean list. I don't normally play lists like this but due to time constraints I had to pack points into characters/monsters =p Slann - BSB, DragonBane Gem, Crown of Command, Banner of Eternal Flame, Becalming, Focus of Mystery, Higher State of Consciousness, Rumination, Lore of Shadow Scar Vet - Sword of Striking, Dragon Helm, Dawnstone Scar Vet - Cold One, Warrior Bane, Talisman of Preservation Skink Priest - Dispel Scroll ------- 23 Saurus - FC 29 Saurus - FC, Spears ------- 2 x 6 Chameleon Skinks 3 Terradons Stegadon ------- 2 x Salamander Ancient Stegadon
Divinor, you're a beast! Though I have to agree with Tsunami on the horns. I absolutely love everything else though, good job!
about the horns... how about trying an old classic? start with black horns that you highlight with thin layers of red towards the tip. it was very common back when i started playing in the early 90s
Well it's not an entirely unnatural coluration. http://www.historyshop.piratemerch.com/images/30-100_powder_horn.jpg
i am not objecting to black horns, but rather to the execution of these black horns. i meant that they seem to be much less well made than the rest of teh painting (which is once again super awesome )
