The World Cup 2026 thread!

Messi has just two World Cup games left in his career (barring injury). :( The only question is, how will it end?

I see France having their way with either of them.

Well well welll... an unexpected but welcome development.

Just like that, the favourites have been croissanted out of the tournament!!! ;)

Now for the big game tomorrow!

Indeed... the lauded favourites sent home by Espana without scoring a single goal, their World Cup run ending with less of a bang and more of a whimper

Now all we need is for England to play as they did against Mexico, and Argentina to be extra complacent (especially with the latter bleating on about a fictional place called 'Las Malvinas' for the umpteenth time) ;)

An England VS Spain final will be a particularly interesting affair.

they were basically annihilated.
must be said that France arrived to the semifinaly facing basically minor teams, while the struggle for Spain was more significant. Spain was the first real obstacle to France.
in retrospective, the belief in France's superiority was partially undeserved.

You are easily glossing over the fact that England might withhold Messi frm the final ;)
You've misunderstood my point. I am not looking past England in the slightest. In my opinion this game is a coin toss. Either side could win.

However, no matter what (barring injury), we've got:

Argentina beat England + Argentina plays in the final = 2 world cup games for Messi
OR

England beat Argentina + Argentina plays in the third place game = 2 world cup games for Messi

It's two games either way and it's anybody's guess as to how this will unfold. Which is why is stated:

England can only blame itself. And Tuchel.
You CANNOT just stop playing.
Argentina deserved this one. In the dying embers of the game they hit two posts and scored two goals.

Two assists for Messi! Who now leads Mbappe in the scoring race (same number of goals, but Messi has one more assist). I'd still favour Mbappe to win it because he is more likely to score against England than Messi is against the awesome defense of Spain.

No goal but two decisive assists. this man is an alien.
And he had several other passes that were pinpoint perfect and easily could have resulted in goals. Sometimes his playmaking is overlooked because of his scoring prowess, but the man's passing is second to none.

Ok, that's my bad. I forgot about the losers final

Deserved all the way. First half did not deserve a medal, but second half made up for it. Tension untill the end.

When Argentina go for it, they really go for it. First against Egypt and now against the mighty England.

By the end of it, nobody can deny that the more deserving team won.

Can they break down the mighty Spanish defense though?
