    Does anyone have any ideas as to how to deal with a killy Vampire Lord in an 8th game? I know that he'll have Red Fury and Quickblood, plus probabaly the Sword of Swift Slaying and be mounted on a Zombie Dragon. What do the Lizardmen have to stop that?

    IRC that was one of the top 3 cheesiest builds in Warhammer.

    I know, but I have a friend who is new to the game and built his first list. After reading through his book, that's what he came up with. I don't want to dissuade him and just try to play him fair. Then I'll bring my Dwarf gunline in our next game...

    I haven't used my Lizardmen against a VC army, so I didn't know if there was a combo or build that just worked well against them.

    You MIGHT get lucky with the blade of realties...
    or high level magic.

    but otherwise it's the standard answer of...
    Kill it with massed ranged poison.

    I know some theory.
    If you face a terrorgheist, employ skink skirmisher (horray for poisoned shooting).
    The only character that can fight a blender lord, is an Oldblood with Fencer’s Blades or Swift Sword, and Glittering Scales armor.
    The Sword of Anti-heroes can also be a passable counter.

    What about an Oldblood sporting a 1+ re-rollable armour save and a 4+ ward save? I haven't run the numbers, but that Oldblood is tough as nails. I think he has the best shot at shutting down the blender lord.

    Well, fencer blades, glittering and dawnstone, with cold one, will give a 1+ armor rerollable... no ward save but will be difficult to hit.
    And you are saving 15 pts for magic. Maybe that one that forces opponents to reroll successful saves? (Edit : other trickster's shard )

    That's true, but the re-rollable 1+ armour save and 4+ ward save build allows you to take a GW and strike at strength 7.

    Yeah, I don't think that I'll be going first no matter what. He'll have ASF and better Initiative. The GW option and 4++ save sounds pretty good to me. The Fencer's Blades are only for models on foot as well, right? I was thinking that I'd mount my Oldblood on a Carnosaur so that I could avoid a Thunderstomp from the Zombie Dragon but also provide another threat to him as well as add +2 to my armor save.

    Now the Glittering Scales actually sounds really good. I'd prefer him to only be hitting me on 5's rather than 4's. Out of his 7 attacks, he should only average 2-3 hits. Out of those, only 1-2 wounds. Then armor and ward saves should save most of those. He's only S5, so armor will be saving on a 3+.

    With this combo, I should only be lacking in # of attacks and initiative. The good defense should make up for the slower initiative and re-rolls, but the 7 attacks rather concerns me. I don't know that there is really anything that I can do against that though.

    this means he also gets to reroll his missed attacks... IRC.

    NO, you can use them mounted, they don't count as "extra weapon".

    The Carnasaur is a good monster killing mount.

    Does the 7 attacks include the dragon ?

    Yeah, that ASF and high Int combo is nasty.

    Huh! I don't know why but I always considered the Fencers Blades to count as an "extra weapon" since they are paired weapons. I just thought that meant the same thing. Interesting point. I bet there are some good debates over this. So I suppose it comes down to if I want WS10 and an extra attack, or S7.

    The 7 attacks are JUST on his Vampire. :wideyed: Though, if I am at WS10, he'd be hitting me on 4's but with the Glittering Scales he'll only hit on 5's. I'd be hitting him on 4's due to his Zombie Dragon's Fly Swarm causing -1 to Hit in cc.

    Also WS10 gets rid of his ASF rerolls.

    ... and I think you may be hitting him on a 3+

    Does it? I think the ASF + higher Int gives the rerolls. It doesn't have to do with higher WS. Or so I thought.

    perhaps I am confusing the dueling blades with the 10 int sword.

    Yeah, the Gold Sigil Sword gives I10, but for 10 points more, you get the Sword of Swift Slaying which grants ASF. I can only imagine that Elves would benefit from the GSS.

    To avoid the thunderstomp you could use a Cold One.
    with Glittering Scale and a cold one, you go at a 1+ armor save.
    However, there's a limited number of options:
    with glittering, you cannot have Armor of Destiny, so no ward save 4+
    to have the ward save, you can pick the Talisman, but at that point no re-roll of failed armor saves
    To avoid rerolls by the vampire, you need to have "Always strike first"; and this means a Swift sword.

    There are also some question marks... will the vampire be aquipped with an Other trickster's Shard? will it have an Ogre blade?

    In case of trickster's shard, imo the ward save 4+ loses some of its appeal; in this case, i would go for:
    Cold one with glittering scales and swift sword; it means an armor save of 1+, you will be hit at 5+ and no rerolls for to hit.
    and you'll have 50 pts for other magic items... dawnstone to re-roll your armor saves (against an ogre blade you would have a rerollable 5+)
