    Hello my cold-blooded amigos-

I've been a bit of a lurker for awhile, but finally need some help! My friends and I are running this GIGANTIC Warhammer campaign (we created our own continents with faction-nations, moving map armies, etc.); we basically put Total War/Civilization/Warhammer together. We're running 6th edition cause it's cheap.

Anyways, I've been trying to think up good names for Lizardmen regiments. Obviously "7th Skink Regiment" or something similar doesn't mesh well with the Lizard vibe...any ideas/suggestions? Doesn't have to be from the books; just something that flows with a Incan/Aztec/Lizard theme.

Here's how I see it, but just a forewarning this is my opinion only. If someone more knowledgeable than me pips in you should probably listen to them!

Saurus warriors tend to be spawned in large groups, which fight side by side until death. I don't think there's any hard and fast naming convention, but I imagine they'd be named after the location which they were spawned, the time of the spawning and any mark of the Old Ones they bear. For example a spawning of Chotec blessed Saurus from Hexoatl spawned under a new moon might be called something like "Chotec's Midnight Spawning of the Sun City" or something to that effect.

Saurus being the simple warriors that they are might just attribute a single descriptive term based on the current situation or role to spawning during battle rather than using their colleagues "official" titles. For example the "North spawning", "First Defenders", "Second Defenders", "First North Ambush".

Skinks I think would be much more fluid, and outside specific spawning types (such as Great Crested skinks and whatnot) they'd organise their formations in a more or less "human" manner of having individuals of similar skills or roles form units rather than spawn-kin like the Saurus. The names of these formations (skirmishers or cohorts) would likely be taken from their leaders (braves, cheifs etc), with a prime example being Tichi Huichi's Raiders - a unit of dinosaur riding skinks led by Tichi Huichi that specialise in hit and run raids.

Warbeasts like Stegadons and Bastilodons would probably be given their own names and titles, but I don't think Salamanders and Razordons would get such special treatment without first achieving something great (or maybe being marked as great somehow, like by being albino or funny coloured, or by having some kind of unusual physical attribute).

In Thanquol, they list some names in the army composition for...

The Red Host, examples: Jungle Patrol and Amaxon River Patrol (both 2 spawnings of skink skirmishers), The Redhorns (3 stegs), The Red Shields (5 cohorts w/krox), Mauls of Sotek (2 "clubs" of Krox) and Makers of the Paths (1 club of Krox), The Protectors of Xihilic (2 packs of salamanders), The Living Bastions (2 Arks Bastilidons), And the Wind that Hungers (1 "wing" of Rippers). These are most of the ones from the red host.

"The Defenders of the City of the Mists", some are: The Mist Runners (7 spawnings of skirmishers), Defenders of Xlanhuapec (7 spawnings of cohort, 2 Saurs, 1 COR), Cohort of the Black Club (2 spawnings of Saurs)

And "the Host of Hexoatl", Examples include; Cohort of (insert one of the following) the City of the Sun, Black Onyx The Rays Divine, The Copper Sun [All of the previous are saurs warriors, between 1 and 5].

There are more examples for each army, just didn't want to type it. Obviously the best option is whatever sounds best for you!

The only thing I would add to Fhanados's response is that this paragraph about spawnings would also apply to the SKrox regiments (where the big guys and little guys are spawned together).

Unless they hail from the great city of Lostma-booti,
then they tend to have name like Joe and Bob....

Just say your are a sacred host of Quetzl (which essentially we are now with increased armour save on saurus and skinks) so just have your spawnings all be of Quetzl, such as first cohort of the protector, third scout pack of the scale... etc.

You got a lot of ways to go. The "seventh spawning of the northwest pool" is one, but it's a bit dry. In the old 5th edition rule book the spawning names often related to physical features. "He took the blue crested Skinks with him." I figure titles like the "seventh spawning of the northwest pool" would be the legal name written down in the archives. If a spawning is addressed directly that way they are either very young or they are being condescended to.

Once they become better know they will get an informal title like "Blue crested Skinks." Then if they show determination, ferocity, or something else noteworthy they could be something like the Jade Saurus of Huanchi. If one spawning member REALLY distinguished himself, you might see a group title like Spawning of Kaitar or something like that.

I imagine less populace cities would be more prone to unique titles and larger cities more prone to dry formal titles.

I saw someone mention above the Salamander units might not have names but deep in my heart I want to believe the skinks in the hunting packs have nicknames for their specific Salamanders

I like to give Saurus and Skink characters Aztecy Saurian names, but if a dinosaur needs to be named, I give Salamanders, Carnosaurs, and the like names, they get very utilitarian names. Bonecruncher, Foestomper, stuff like that.
