How important were Dinosaurs in your decision to start collecting/playing Lizardmen? Was it a love of Dinosaurs that drew you into the Lizardmen realm or was it something completely unrelated?

For me it was the moneys.....got a lizardmen deal that i just could not refuse (80 euros for a ca. 3000 pt army).

It helped that lizards also lend themselves quite excellently for a desert theme....cause i find deserts (and their fauna) quite fascinating (probably because i am from the Netherlands which is quite the opposite of a desert environment).

For me it was the fluff, bought a few army books back in 5th ed. and after reading them I ended up starting to collect Lizardmen.

Dinosaurs was the main reason for me to join the Old Ones!
To be honest I still think our dinosaur units are the coolest in all of the warhammer game, 40K and fantasy, so I guess they continues to be highly effecient at drawing me back into the hobby. And I do regard Saurus units among this, though I must say many of our "Dino's" as fairly broad set of features all across the clad Archosauria.... (This, though, is just another cool feature of the army, in my opinion :) )
The fluff about the Old Ones, and creations is just great, but I didn't knew all that stuff before I bought my first army book along a starter set of Lizardmen.

Only took up Lizardmen with the 8th edition army book and for me it was a mixture of wanting a tough infantry based army (something my other armies couldn't do) and looking for a way to use the Kroot models (which I think are some of GW's best) in WFB.

Do you use them as Saurus or Skinks? (What do you use as Kroxigors?)

Nevermind, found your PLog. Huge flightless birds as Krox....nice.

As Bob is fond of pointing out, I started with Elves (because they have dragons!). And what is a dinosaur if not a flightless dragaon? Once I saw the old metal Carnosaur model I was hooked. Also, IMO, the Saurus models look awesome, so that helps a lot.

That is a splendid model. I own a pair of them... though both are unpainted.

I asked the owner of the FLGS what was the cheapest army to start as I was in 4th grade and didn't have much money

That's a pretty good reason. Warhammer is an expensive game... it never hurts to save a few bucks. :)

I can't quite remember. I'm very sure i picked Lizardmen mainly for the Saurus Warriors and the Slann. Obviously the dinosaurs are a part of it as well, especially because I started just right before the new book and the new carno, trog and bastiladon are all glorious models. Unfortunately not so much their rules.

It's a shame really about LM because you're tricked into buying them because of the awesome Saurus Warriors/Templeguards and big dinos and then you realize you'll be needing way more skinks because herp derp current meta.

My motivation for 'collecting' lizardmen (I can't profess to have gamed with them yet....!) wasn't so much the dinos, but more the visual aspect and the epigraphy/historiography. The ancient cultures of the Americas are such a rich source of inspiration for the army it is impossible not to find ideas for a theme, basing or converting. Add that to the loose painting guides and you have an army you can tailor in whichever manner you want.

Dinosaurs played a huge part in my decision to spend countless dollars on Lizardmen. I wouldn't say they're the MAIN reason (that would be the old Saurus Warriors minis) but they definitely cemented Lizardmen as my army of choice. As a kid I was dinosaur obsessed, and some things just never leave you no matter how grown up you get :)

The dinosaurs were indeed the main reason I chose lizardmen. Initially I chose another army that shall not be mentioned, but switched to the reptile side. They had dino's. So if ielded said dino's. My enemies fielded cannons...
