    Either you dont get me, or I dont get you.
    How is a Piranah blade going to save my Oldblood from multi-wounding Greater daemons?

    I didn't get you apparently. I thought you meant dealing out multiple wounds instead of defending against them. My bad.

    The options there seem few and far between. either good armor and ward saves. potion of healing (restore D6 wounds but that after the fact) or instead of using an Oldblood, use Gor Rok who can ignore multiple wound rules and killing blows on a 2+, he is however an 2 wound model with a Scar-Veteran statline with only +1 toughness difference...and no ward save except for Parry saves.

    Hopefully, that answers your question a bit better than before.

    I wasn't asking anything.
    I am fully aware on the possibilities on kiting oldbloods and scar-vets, and it quite eludes me you would think otherwise.

    You are taking my initial comment about multi-wounds and taking it out of context.

    1. I was debating with Nightbringer, whatever an oldblood could go toe to toe with "just about anything".
    2. I then state: I would hesitate to send him in against something that did multi-wounds
    3. This is where you de-rail the subject.

    4. Back on subject: The Crown and Stubborn units.

    @NIGHTBRINGER

    My oldbloods actually rarely need a crown to stick around.

    Even if you bumb him into a semi-deep infantry unit, more often than not he will stick against the static-res.

    Yesterday I had my Oldblood (AoD, Dawnstone, OTS, GW, Cold one)
    take on a 20-something unit of Irondrakes.

    They got the charge (1 res in their favour)

    In the flank (2 res in their favour)

    downhill (3 res in their favour)

    with a banner (4 res in their favour)

    and 2 ranks. (6 res in their favour)

    They get no wounds through, and then my dear oldblood "Slaq-Thar" (butcher in danish) went to town.

    His cold one killed 1
    He killed 4

    meaning his absolutely perfect charge got reduced to win by 1, which he had NO problems standing through.
    Guess what the following rounds had in store for the dwarfs.

    A crown here would have meant no wardsave, or not dawnstone, and then he might actually have died
    I think crowns are for Bus-play, and better be put on a guy in 2nd rank.

    @Hooligan

    If you are looking for an anvil to take a charge, and if you want a Slann in it to look juicy,
    Take Kroak in a TG unit with Razorstandard.

    Only problem is: they will only fall for it once.

    @Phatmotha-phucka

    I agree that in many instances you can get away without the crown on the Oldblood... however against any unit with significant static combat resolution it is a gamble. All it takes is one poor round of dice rolls and it's game over for the Oldblood. I've played it both ways, it just changes his role a little bit. Without the crown we have more points to make him a dedicated character killer, but with the crown he is a far better candidate to take on or tarpit a dangerous unit.

    Only time static red should break you is if you are stuck in a challenge with a unit champ and the cold one kills him before the old blood can attack

    Which happens......

    I had my scar-vet flunk all his attacks in a Champion challenge....with Harmonic Convergence on him.

    I rolled 2, 2, 1, 1,

    Re-rolling the 1's got me = 1, 2 ...........yea, thanks for that harmonic.
    luckily the cold one landed both attacks, which made him stand his leadership test on the exact digit (forgot which).
