Hi all! Reading about the ppl that are introducing beta testing of selfmade 9th edition and looking at what people said... I got very interested in the fact that we should have more core and the idea of skink cav sounds absolutely amazing!. So this here is just dreaming and all but bare with me for the funzies . Skinks on CO? Nah... I've come up with 2 units I would love to field ( again dreaming ). Iguana's and some sort of feathered running birds ( like ostriches with more color and jungle feel to them). Some random thinking about stat lines: Skink Warrior: M 6 - WS 3 - BS 3 - S 3 - T 3 - W 1 - I 4 - A 1 - Ld 5 Skink Warrior Brave: M 6 - WS 4 - BS 3 - S 3 - T 3 - W 1 - I 4 - A 2 - Ld 5 Iguana: M 7 - WS 3 - BS 0 - S 4 - T 4 - W 1 - I 2 - A 1 - Ld 2 Special Rules: Iguana: Poisened attacks, Cold Blooded, forest strider. Skinks: Scaly Skin 6+, Cold Blooded / carry: spears, shields and Light armor. ( Giving them a 3+AS). This Unit may carry Magic Banner of up to 15pts. Skink Hunter: M 6 - WS 2 - BS 3 - S 3 - T 3 - W 1 - I 4 - A 1 - Ld 5 Skink Hunter Brave: M 6 - WS 3 - BS 4 - S 3 - T 3 - W 1 - I 4 - A 2 - Ld 5 Ostrich like bird: M 8 - WS 3 - BS 0 - S 3 - T 3 - W 1 - I 2 - A 1 - Ld 2 Special Rules: Armour piercing ( beak), Swifstride, Vanguard, Cold Blooded, forest strider. Skinks: Scaly skin 6+, Cold Blooded / carry: Lustrian blowpipes with hand weapon & shield or lustrian javs and shields. ( Maybe even create Lustrian bows? short bows with poisened attacks ). (4+AS no light armour) Again just dreaming, but the models would look cool as *****! What points would you give these units? The 3 Toughness needed on the skinks or maybe the normal 2 enough? The Iguana S4/T4 to much? Putting Chiefs on them for 10pts or something? Just for funzies chat about the possibilities !
I dont think the T4 fits for skink cavalry thats saurus department. Anyway, I like the idea of cav core...been wishing for a "cheap" and effective lookout sir for my vets for a LONG time.
Yeah T4 is probably over the top but you hit the riders T anywayz . I think the birds and Iguana's are the pray of the cold ones so putting them in there seems a bit weird. I wouldnt let them join these units our cowboys are strong enough as it is..
Well there are (old, OOP and hard to find) models for Skinks Horned One cavalry. Some people have coverted Skink Culchan cavalry. I think Skink cavalry should fall into something that could fielded with either. Actually your stats for iguanas are very close to the old Horned Ones.
I ll be sure to look this up! Wauw they are indeed great. Look like little cold ones . This way i would see a cowboy joining the unit . I want to get my hands on them
I've been toying around with similar idea that it would be nice to see some skink cavarly on the field. I think you've done quite balanced units out of these. I'd say these should go for around 14-19 points a piece. However, my thought is that they should not be core units. The reason for this is that the units, especially fast cavalry, would obviously compete with the spot on the army with terradons and to an extend ripperdactyls. This is not a bad thing. But if you put these units up in core they are obviously chosen over the fliers simply because they fill out the same role but are core and then you could take less saurus/krox/skrox and perhaps more power choices (TG, Cowboys, salamanders, etc.) But if they would be special they would still compete with terradons but our army would still need to be more well thought. I see where you come from and you might be very right. Seeing your coment on making krox instead core units it would be a nice trade of. Bit as i said in the post there with a max unit size and a max units looking at per point game.
Wow there are some major point swings, both up and down. I'm not a fan of the changes to the Bastiladon, though they definitely made the Ark of Sotek better... maybe too good? Making the beam of Chotec one use only (even if it is an automatic effect with no dispel) seems silly. I LOVE the grand moment of clarity spell in the lore of Old Ones. I think it is both useful and befitting of a Slann Mage-Priest fluffwise.
To be honest, such a mistake has happened to me as well when pretty much every thread is about some adjustment to the rules right now. It's easy to mix the different ones
Wow, I haven't seen these guys since 2005. They should really get an update where they don't ride cold ones but something like this...
I made a thread, of which I have linked, about these Culchans which were bird like hunters. Depending on interpretation of this, that could either be terror birds or dromeosauria as a model I would love both
They are indeed terror birds. I believe this one is called Gastornis. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastornis
Those are Awesome! I can see that the base is 50mm, that's a MC or ogre base size, if I am not mistaken. Would be pretty cool to have as a monster in an army, guess they could proxy... Actually I don't know.... Well they're cool!
