The tournament: I'm going to my firt AoS tournament, which will be based upon the Azyr Comp rules, plus some specific home rules for each scenario (that will be explained when we'll play). The interesting part, is that there will be a sort of story, and every game will develope further the story. We will be divided in two groups, not necessarily Order Vs Chaos, but Group A (with one goal) and Group B (that must stop Group A), but each army must be composed by single races, so you cannot field empire with dwarfs' cannons... The other interesting part, is that our armies will develope as the story advances... at the beginning, they will be small, and as the importance of the mission increases, so the size of the army. Basically, we must prepare a list with 20 points (max hero points 5), another one with 30 pts (max hero pts 8), and the last one with 40 pts (max hero pts 12). The bigger lists, must be a development of the first one, so you can only add units, but you cannot remove units which were in the first list. And the general must remain the same (so, at 40 pts, you coud field Nagash / Lord Kroak / Karl Franz... but he won't be the general). The last house rule, is that (basically) you cannot use formations. Or better, if you decide to use a formation, your army will be formed exclusively by units of that formation. I think it's a little weird (some formations, such the skink patrol, is clearly a support to an army, and the bigger formations, cannot be fielded at 20 points), but I'll run with it.
The army lists: 20 points: 1 Slann (the general) 10 temple guards 3 ripperdactyls 3 x 5 chamaleon skinks The plan: chama will pop and harass anything they want, the ripper will go kamikaze to slain or weaken a target unit, the Slann can summon and mantain 3 units, and they will be: - skink priest (arcane vassal, further spells, buff the Guards with Celestial rites) - Chakax (should I say more?) - 3 razordon the razordon and the skinks will erode my enemy (alongside with arcane bolts), and finally chakax and the buffed guards will mop the floor with the remnants 30 points: the same of 20 points, plus 1 Bastiladon 1 skink priest 1 salamander The plan is obviously similar to the original, but the bastiladon will add a strong ally, and the fact that the skink prist is already on the table, let my Slann to summon something more interesting (Chakax, the razordons and probably 3 kroxigors, or 5 saurus cavalry... I'll decide on the run) 40 points the same of 30 points, plus Tetto'Eko Scar Vet BSB 5 Saurus Cavalry 2 jungle swarms With Tetto'Eko and the BSB, The Slann should easily summon also an Engine of the Gods, steamrolling anything.
Interesting. Do they post up how many points each unit is? Edit: never mind. I found it! When you said Azyr comp rules should have been a clue!
Was reading through this comp list, very cool. Check page 5 for clarifications. You might not be able to summon the engine if it's not on your list. You may need to get further clarification. But I could be reading it wrong!
I'll ask, but the Comp gives also a number of max warscrolls, which I suppose it includes the units you can have as reserves (because seriously, I challenge you to field 10 different warscrolls with only 20 points )
Haha! I am having a hard time building this type of list! But I challenged a few friends to try this out!
let's see, maybe it's possible... 20 points (5 for heroes) 1 Skink chief (1 pt) 1 Skink Priest (2 pts) 1 Saurus oldblood on cold one (2 pts) then: 5 Saurus cavalry (4 pts) 5 chamaleon skinks (2 pts) 1 Salamander with skink handlers (2 pts) 3 Ripperdactyls riders (3 pts) 2 jungle swarms (1 pt) 15 skinks (3 pts) 20 pts, 10 battlescrolls. Yeah, it's possible, using the cheapest units, and given that the free handlers count as another battlescroll. But if you go the next step (30 pts, max 15 warscrolls), I don't think you can.
