    Hey everyone,

I see there are threads on magnetizing bases for transport or movement trays but I was thinking of magnetizing my model to the base, has anyone tried this?

I have a new carnosaur that comes with the 120x90mm oval base which is quite large and takes up a lot of room plus sits awkwardly on it's side in my large GW carry case, i was thinking of magnetizing his foot with a magnetic strip and putting a 10mm magnet underneath the base so I can remove the base whenever I'm transporting. Was also thinking of doing this for my stegadons.

Has anyone tried something like this before and would the magnets be strong enough to keep the model upright to the base? I have modifx magnets.

oh, yea if that's the sort of magnetic strip magnets used for refrigerator magnets.
forget about it... you need some nice strong rare earth magnets. :bookworm:

depend on the pounds per square inch pull on the magnets.
(they should have listed how strong they are)

Ps. make sure your magnets poles are oriented to attract each other before you glue them on.

Good advice... otherwise you'll have quite an interesting predicament on your hands. :D

    If they're strong enough I don't see a problem ^^

Thanks for the help guys! Just bought these suckers since my other ones are smaller, going to attempt to drill into the foot and stick one in first before doing the base thing

So instead of magnetizing an extra base I decided to buy and try to use green stuff to extend rock the carnosaur stands on, I must say it work pretty dam well!! Thanks everyone for your help!

Looks good! How will you avoid it from turning around?

What do you mean? When I pick it up by either its base or body it's very solidily in place and doesn't shift

Does it not turn around? In my experience if I put only 1 magnet the the piece turns around.
    Well better for you... ;)

I suppose you could add a set of smaller secondary magnets solely to keep it from turning...

Just use some greenstuff on the base modelled into stones place them around the foot stone so it can't move but like you say if it ain't moving.....

Doh, yea, keying it into the base would definitely work.
