Easiest way is too use plaster bricks or you can use plasticard covered with pva and sand.

I remember seeing a fortification from White Dwarf that combined logs, stockade, and monolithic stones. Might have been a Border Princes theme.

Slight side note, but did anyone else know that legit stadium-building was a thing for blood bowl terrain?

    Even a Lizardmen themed one!!!

    Mind blown :jawdrop:

Also found a cool inspirational picture of a small dwarven mine. Its not a quarry, but it was close.

Yeah I actually discovered them about a year or two ago and I was extremely surprised as to how far people would go with blood bowl. They look magnificent though :pompus:

Re-watched Agony and the Ecstasy recently (Michelangelo Charlton Heston vs. the Pope Rex Harrison) , reminded me of your quarry. Their is a giant marble quarry in the movie.

Think scatter terrain. But it can be pushed together and 'assembled'. Start by building a squared corner...then do a second piece.

Lots of options out there. If you want to be cheap, I would suggest foam from a local hobby/hardware store that you can cut up with a utility knife. Thats what I used for my jungle fortress/castle to use in siege scenarios for my lizardmen vs bretonnians. It was fun, but I would recommend making something like this in a few different parts so that it can be modular (take it apart for easier storage, deploy in different formations, etc), something like this:

    castle construction set.jpg

That being said, that is a LOT of work. As much as tons of individual pieces would be fun, thats a lot of pieces when you factor in walls, towers of various sizes, the castle keep, gatehouse, gatetowers the list could go on forever.

I did see an interesting wooden project in a hobby store a few months ago of a small wooden castle:

    simple castle wood.jpg

The picture shows the castle as a solid piece, but the one I saw was actually in two halves, front and back, that could swing apart or together with small hinge on the side. Lots of tiny rooms inside, but also space on the top for minis to sit. Something like this would be a much easier project to make, you wouldn't even need solid foam blocks. This project could be made simply with painted wood, cardboard, or foam paper to make the castle structure, and cut out the details with scissors/saw/craft knife.

Making this project even simplier, you could always just make a fortified tower. Most early castles looked like this. The picture below specifically evokes my ideal of a castle tower on a lake (only thing missing is the Lady of the Lake herself to cast her fey spells on the Bretonnian Knights).

Of course, if I had unlimited time and resources, I would totally make a castle inspired by a real-world example, or one of the amazing models you can find on a site like pinterest. Maybe someday!

Cool castle ruin that would make a great terrain piece:

Not that many people are sharing their progress. Hm, what might that mean? Simple procrastination? Or something more sinister?

    Oh, my! *faints*

On a serious note, I must confess I am a bit stuck with my project as well (lava lake). I have drawn the plan, made the layout, even primed everything black. But I found out that something bigger and better can come out of it, so now I need to buy some additional materials to make it a proper vignette-style entry. Hopefully I shall finish it during my vacation! :)

Edit: Not to mention that I am being constantly diverted by the need to finish my Salamander army to finally start playing them!

My glade idea was far too ambitious to complete during a summer with a new puppy, so I'll do be doing part of it and completing the rest at a later date. My plan is now to create a couple of smaller trees on "hills" (small ones) and have a smaller scene below under them. Then in the future I can add more trees and a small bit of water...

As usual, my ideas outweigh my time and ability at about 10:1 :D
