Help with paint choice

Hi. I am trying to create a lava themes army of seraphon. I already know what figures I am going to use but I'm not sure which paints and brushes. Oranges and Black's mainly but I don't know what paints or bridges I am going to need to do details or anything like that.

I'm pretty fond of cool color pallets, so I'd go for something like pic related:



But if you're looking for something warmer, one of these might do well.

I like that first one suggested by @spess

But add two additional color swatches to it: bright hot yellow and
white for highlights.

A bright warm yellow in the hottest parts of the lava will intensify the contrast.

Do you already have a big collection of Citadels? If not can I tell you into considering Reaper's paints?

(BTW, I don't advocate a one brand is best when it comes to paint. If I had the money I would carefully complete/expand my collection of Reaper MSPs and HDs for colors. I would buy Scale75's Metallics. I would cherry pick some shades and washes from current GW, and I would go find that coat-de-Arms paint that is equivalent to GW's old Tin Bitz and some other metals.)

To which (again) I suggest adding a bright hot yellow and white.

The wheel @Crowsfoot found just does not have all the colors that can exist or be mixed or found in a photo reference.

Here's what I use for my lava/fire effects:
White primer
Flash glitz yellow
Averland sunset
Fire dragon orange
Squig orange
Evil sunz scarlet
Mephiston red
Mechanicus standard grey
Fuegan orange
(Optional) abbadon black

That's for lava and fire... additionally I'd recommend at least one kind of wash like nuln oil and a lighter grey (administratum grey)... with a bit of mixing you will get a paint scheme like this: (with and without flashlight)


I also recommend at least one metal color and some kind of green and blue... It's not quite the same as in the picture @spess posted but you can use it as a start and later pick up more colors from @pendrake's list...
also what @pendrake said is very true... there are other brands of colors that you could try out... I found Vallejo a solid and cost efficient alternative...
