I think the terms haft, handle or shaft would all be applicable.

Thanks! And heads up... You're giving me two more options to name the hammer sticks... that means bonus points... ;) so that's a draw...

Well... terrain is going quite well... managed to build a detachable roof for the countinghous... next step is the interior and to get a layer of clay on the walls... when the countinghous is ready for painting I'll start building the warehouse and some stalls... entrance and basing will be done as last step...
Unfortunately I have no pictures at hand... so I show you the progress on my parents garden...;)

Ok. Here some pics of my progress... found that the clay I wanted to use got hard over the time... fortunately I had a small package in reserve so I could start building the walls... or fortifying them...
    20170808_213043.jpg 20170808_213052.jpg 20170808_213101.jpg
So about 1/3 is done on the walls... time to try if the roof still fits on the building... it's just a cardboard with some skewers on it and some wooden dowels in the corners to fix it to the building...
    20170808_213117.jpg 20170808_213137.jpg
It fits! still debating with myself wether to build it as a simple flat roof or a kind of roof terrace... guess it's gonna be flat roof henche the time...
As a bonus here a size comparison... saurus warrior, oldblood(temple guard), skink star priest and normal skink...

    Made a market stall...
    First the wooden framework...
    20170809_094018.jpg 20170809_094026.jpg
    Then the canvas roof...

As this could count as the smallest version of a trading post, I guess I should finish this one first, so in case of time running out I at least have something to show off... let's ask @The Penguin what was on his mind when he posted this idea...

Cheneruka the pale one... an attempt to paint white skin... I used a grey wash on white... the effect is not as strong as I expected... maybe I'll give him a wash of nuln oil for more depth and use the grey again after the first highlights...

So... lots of house cleaning done today... wife is returning on Tuesday... still found some little time for some painting...
Cheneruka got a wash of nuln oil and was highlighted with a mix of medium and light grey, a mix of more light grey and medium grey, light grey and a mix of light grey and white... followed by a wash of pale grey... next will be layers of light grey and white...
The red dwarf received some highlights on the red and black parts... still have to do the fur on his back and the rim of the tunic... then I'll do the metal stuff...
The green dwarf is just a start of basecoat...

This paper towel technique works not only well for canvas roofs... also skink crests can be made quite easily...
I used some poster putty and assembled my latest star priest... turns out he's quite handsome...

My guess is paper towel and then apply some PVA glue to soak it with, that becomes quite hard. I use it as a surface for foam rocks. (Pics on my blog very soon).

My mind is blown. I had no clue just paper towels and glue could do something like this, its looks really simple!

This guy is giving me tons of ideas now, especially for my jousting tents. Its too late to start over on these guys, but the watered down glue method might be promising. I really like the texture this guy makes on these tents too!

Also he makes orcish banners! And other tutorials too, like giant crossbows!

Thanks for the link @tom ndege this was very informative.

He's indeed quite creative and talented... some stuff is d&d specific some things not my style, but you can learn and get inspiration from every video of him I've seen so far... even if you don't like the stuff he creates you can always find a technique or idea that is useful...

Had to pack up the bigger parts of the terrain project and clean up my desk today... guests are coming tomorrow and stay for the weekend... sleeping in my hobby room/office... bad timing...
But at least I could work on the smaller things...
    Like Cheneruka the pale one...

Or this conversion of a skink into a priest...
    20170818_220059.jpg 20170818_220110.jpg
    Or the dwarf warrior...
    20170818_215858.jpg
    20170818_215910.jpg
And a d&d sorceress I'm gonna use as Amazon witch...

First time doing skin on bigger parts than just forehead, nose and hands... left the face cause I feared to fuck it up... without the possibility to cover it up with a beard...

    Gold highlighted:

I think I'll have to improve the scales a little... but aside from repairing some mistakes there's only little left to do...
Also highlighted the gold on the dwarf and drybrushed the fur on his back with zanduri dust... I think that was a good idea, wasn't it? I feel like the texture is really nicely visible now...
