Symbols or emblems for shields

I'm too broke/lazy to get my hands on the battletom codex thing and need help with emblems or markings on saurus shields

 

I did a similar thing with my Saurus shields - I couldn't stand there being so much flat colour, and shields just have to have some kind of heraldry or patterning. After some experimentation I ended up with these patterns:




Hopefully they provide some inspiration. Whilst researching I looked at Mesoamerican, Sub-Saharan African, Polynesian, and Aboriginal art and design, I think that their predominantly flat-colour and geometric designs would mesh well with the Lizardmen. I hope that this was all useful!

Those are interesting, I guess in the fluff they would mimic the design of the milky way (the band) and the stars (the small blocks) because of the star-theme?

While they are interesting, I feel like not much actual though went into these few pages. Considering the amount of heraldry that you see in older codexes (I am thinking Bretonnia and some of the stuff for Empire) this seems a bit uninspired. While it might be hard to paint any more complicated designs on Lizardmen shields because of the scales, I would prefer to see more designs going back to the army's fluff roots, pulling shield designs from Aztec, Mayan, or Incan sources.

Heres what i have drawn up, im going with a mix of various shapes for different units.
So saurus, skinks, guard will all have a different look while mantaining a common theme. But this is just rough draft so far
