Agreed, the army looks great, and I like what you did with that multi-base (using the stegadon bit).

It was actually part of a GW basing kit they sold, really happy with that purchase.

I was waiting for an opponent and decided to take some fast snaps of the army, including these bad boys you've never seen finished!

My Salamanders! More and better pics soon I promise.

So proud of myself right now! Almost 1500 points ready. Soon to be completed and brought to 2000!

First army I would have ever painted!!

It's a stunning army you should be very proud

A couple of days ago I finally could get my hands on the final pieces I needed to start work on the last unit for my army. My Kaisenor Lancers, or as you might know them, the Tichi-Huichi Raiders of old. I continued the theme of my Battle-Captain and went for a mix of old and new, changing shields and weapons, this serves a dual purpose. First durability (plastic is so much better for long, thin weapons) and secondly aesthetics as I wanted to make them feel part of the army and not feel out of place, so I got (not without effort) a bunch of Ripperdactyls weapons and shields and started converting them into this mix of old and new:

I will do the finishing touches with GS tomorrow and will start painting next week I hope.

Hope you like them!

Thanks!

I just hope nobody thinks what I'm doing is some kind of heresy. Those miniatures are somewhat valuable right now but I don't really care about those things really.
Your money, your army... your decision...;)

Personally I think your work is great. As I said before I really like how you just change minor things and so achieve to keep the minis character while also integrating the into you army...

Though it might be cool to also have some originals... just in case...

The finished conversion looks very good, and the other looks very promising.

I have a bunch of them (10+) lying unassembled from when I bought them back in 5th edition, and I am actually considering copying your idea to bring them back to life (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :angelic:).

Do it! Once mounted on the cold ones they look AMAZING. Much more dynamic and as I've said better for durability and transport.

I'm starting the long and painful process of Greenstuffing the cold one horrendous gaps now. More pictures soon!

No heresy here, I think your plan is shaping up to be pretty amazing. Really looking forward to what "updates" you can bring to those classic models!

Awesome cold one riders and sallies there.
And yes the vintage cold ones do beat the new ones i'm afraid… Actually there may only be a couple models in the whole GW range that don't i'm afraid XD

... The old 5th edition cold ones where a royal pain to assemble,
after I greatly filed down the halves of the body so they would fit together.
I had to Pin and epoxy everything to keep them together.
and mine had some miscast as well.
(must have been a late run)

The newest Cold ones are just dreadful, these while a pain to work with can be much better looking.

I haven't used epoxy but I did pin EVERYTHING, every single part has a damn pin in it, it's so time consuming.... and the gaps! my god those gaps!

Have spent a whole day of work to just clen every mold line and putty 4 cold ones, it's really frustrating.

I'm now considering if I should glue the riders now so I can take care of the gaps on the saddle... it's going to be a pain to paint but I'm npt sure I can live withthose gaps.
