But.........it's still a point of view and describing anyone as an idiot or scumbag because their views differ from yours is underwhelming to say the least.

I love this site because it is full of great but often opposing views.

I don’t remember saying what you quoted from me... don’t put words in my mouth matey!

No I do know what that means. Even though they claim they’re anti fascist, surely they are acting like fascists, which basically makes their ‘objective’ null and void...

I am not an antifa supporter. But I don't call antifa "idiots" or "scumbags" because of their political views (but they call me a Nazi and a white supremacist just because I disagree with them- it's interesting how that works.) I call them idiots because they are the very thing that they supposedly seek to destroy. Fascists.

I call them scumbags because they show up to trump rallies and assault people. If someone assaults someone, just because they have a different political view from them, doesn't that make them a scumbag?

I do not care if their views are different from mine. I do care when they assault people like me both verbally and physically because of our beliefs. If they wanted to go and cosplay fascists, let them. But don't show up to my rally with a mask, a baseball bat, a riot shield, and body armor, and them tell me that you are "peaceful protesters".

    1. I was joking with the "quote".

    2. Exactly. They are the very thing that they claim to hate. They claim "no hate, no fear" all the while swinging their baseball bats and dildos at everyone who disagrees with them.

We are still talking about the article?

I have just read back through the thread and don't get the 'snowflakes' link/parallel?

I think it was referring to the people who get offended by something a guy (in that case Tolkien) wrote 50 years ago.
Someone who is that easily offended should not call himself liberal IMO. That is not what liberal means.
Also people should stop using liberal as a derogatory term. It isn't. Especially in countries that had their ancestors fighting and dying to achieve liberty. It is spitting on those people's graves IMO.
I also think that we shouldn't use the name for something beautiful as a bad name. Snowflakes rule.

Look what you have started now! ;)

There is definitely a lot to disagree with in the article. The most obvious criticism I have was the constant bashing of Tolkein's work. At the end of the day, Tolkein's work is far more popular than anything GW has released. Also, it has withstood the test of time and will not fade away quite so easily as the author describes.

My "favourite" part of the article:
    upload_2018-2-23_9-59-24.png

    To which I reply:

The truth shall set you free, all you have to do is embrace it.

I thought we've been over this already: http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/fantasy-vs-aos.20517/page-11#post-221582

I think it is widely understood that in a forum such as this, pretty much everything (99%+) someone writes is their opinion. Typical writing convention ( as seen in newspapers, journals and elsewhere) does not require you to preface everything with "I think" or "I believe" or "in my opinion". It is assumed that the reader understands that the argument being laid forward is that of the author, without it being spelled out directly. Then in support of the presented viewpoint/argument, the author should include supporting evidence in the form of statistics, facts, experimental data and/or expert opinions; all of which need to be cited properly (in-text citation, works cited page, etc... all of which should follow the accepted format of the field within which the article was written). As such, it should be pretty clear when an author is stating an opinion or a fact. However, the widely used convention which distinguishes opinion from fact, works in the exact opposite way to the one you are prescribing.

In regards to the article, I have no problem with the way in which it was written or presented. I do however, disagree with the ideas it puts forth.
It isn't, people just like to find reasons to be offended. It's almost like a new currency for the modern world.

Proud? Padawan? After this level of shit storm you've "created" you're the new master now. I guess that makes me the padawan! :p

It's funny how your admittedly on-topic post created such a derailment of the topic. Now you know what I mean when I state "It wasn't my fault!". :joyful:

I agree. Tolkien's work seems pretty clean to me. Personal interpretation is a funny thing though, if one goes looking for trouble they will often find (invent) it.

It is a piece of art, reflecting the time in which it was written to a certain degree of course. It is ok to take a look at, and criticise some aspects, like the role of women or the very black and white depiction of some of the races in that world, but in contrast to other works of that time period... nothing out of the ordinary. I would even say the LotR is a more positive example than most.
Not quite the same goes for Robert E. Howard, the kind of racism that was his world view was very common in the 1930s. But even he is fairly standard for the time the stories were written in.
Criticising such old pieces of art is criticising the society the artists lived in and that has to be taken into account. Reading stuff into it (from our world view some stuff is weird) is something I want to avoid though.

It gets even worse with older stories but I think that would be too much off topic now. :D

To be honest, I'm curious what'l happen if we give it a couple of decades. Warhammer lore works cuz there's an absolute ton of it. It's not like AoS has had the chance to establish itself yet.

I like quite some aspects of AoS lore, especially the Malign Portents stuff.

And remember: WHFB lore isn't gone, it is just history. :)

This is likely to be the case. From what I have been hearing, AoS lore is slowly getting better... if one can stomach all that Sigmarcast Eternalmarine content that comes with it.

they are indeed a tad... extreme.. in their measures it seems at times. They parrallel chaos a bit much in some snippets I've seen.
