Hey guys.

For those of you that don't know, Mantic's dwarves are separated into the free dwarves (your usual dwarf clans but forced out of the homelands) and the Golloch Empire (essentially the main dwarven empire in the dwarven homelands)

While Mantics fantasy world already has a simacrulae for Rome in the lore called primovantor, Mantic uses very Rome like language for the dwarves (empire, legions, etc)

As such, I really can't see the Golloch Empire as anything else than Rome of the dwarves. I have a lot od background to hammer out, but I'm going to be pursuing a project with this theme.

I will be using EM4 plastics supplemented by other ranges as necessary.

I recently acquired 100 spear dwarves as well as a test dwarf for the other two sculpts. This is where I will begin.

My main gripe with those is that they are all the same pose it seems.
...but then maybe Dwarfs are just very fond if uniform looks...

They are monopose. Indeed. You don't like monopose miniatures?

Not particularly, no.
I don't mind if there are only three or four different poses in 20 models, if there are head options or so.
Mantic Skeletons are a good example. Not many poses but enough to make them all look differently.
But I don't really like it if they look all the same.

See, I come from a background where I enjoy regimented, serried ranks of uniformly equipped troops.

Here's a bit of a plan:

Bulk of the Army: EM4 dwarves with Roman Scutum shields and weapon conversions as required.

Specialty heavy troops will probably use momminiaturas dwarves, to still give a bit of that classic dwarven feel.

Monsters and artillery will vary.

Oh dear I just noticed it is time for me to go to bed...
Scrotum

Well... could work in combination with a
phallus
spear...
also people of legal age can google the alternative translation of the German word Scheide... meaning scabbard... the thing you put your sword in, you know ...;):p

Update for today:

Clippers broke before my trip, so I ordered new clippers to replace them. They will help in de-puddle basing the dwarves

New idea:

Any dwarven berserker types will be painted as gallic inspired mercenaries

Hmmm IIRC the Gallic warriors often wore pretty colourful armor. I am not sure if that fits Dwarves well.

Depends on the trive.

I might be thinking British though, accidentally

If I remember correctly the Gallic went into battle wearing nothing but warpaint...

Some of them really did!
But so did some others, including Picts and Scots, even Vikings.
The power of mushrooms....

Does anyone ekel know of alternate dwarf figures that could look good as different troop types?

For Characters there were some nice ones by Reaper IIRC but for troops.... I think there aren't that many that would fit style wise to the ones you have already posted.

They don't have to fit. Going to a mishmash mash
