What, worse than the Trench-Run remake in Episode VII?

    "Look out for enemy fire!"

Well you would if you were attacking their Death Star remake.

That Rose casino scene is one the worst if not the worst scene in the entire series. That character is completely useless, and that scene is the perfect embodiment of that uselessness. I'd be hard-pressed to find many things I dislike more about Star Wars.

I think I disagree. I don't care for Rose that much either and I agree the scene was far too long for its purpose, but it did convey a bit of story and was used for a bit of character development. Also as a set up for the end.
I still agree it was weak but I can think of worse ones in other Star Wars movies.

A bit of useless story. You could have designed another means by which the character's could breach the First Order's defenses and only spend a few seconds of screen time on it. That scene just dragged on.

Character development for a boring and uninspired character (Rose). It didn't really add very much to Finn's character which was already better developed in TFA.

Which was another brutal scene. That scene with Finn would have been powerful and impactful. Rose just robbed the movie of that and delivered a cheesy line in its place. Plus it was an incredibly selfish move on her part that would likely have resulted in all of their deaths had Luke not "intervened" (something which she had no prior knowledge of). Not to mention that realistically there would have been a high probability that her maneuver would have resulted in both their deaths needlessly, either through the crash itself or as a result of being stranded directly in front of all the First Order's firepower.

So the casino scene set the stage for another horrible scene at the end.

    There are a few:
    • most Jar Jar scenes (in my opinion... I understand that others like @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl like him)
    • the Anakin "I don't like sand" scene
    • just about all Anakin - Padme romantic scenes in episodes II & III
    • the floating through space Leia scene could be considered here as well, but at least that was short
    • the singing scene in Jabba's palace (although that was added in later)

    Any others?

For me those are the worst. I don't mind the other ones that much. The Leia scene comes close though.

So the Casino scene is still one of the worst Star Wars scenes of all time.

Probably, yes. Depends on how long the list for being "among the worst" can be.

Sadly the list doesn't have to be all that long. I've proposed a few... people can feel free to add to it (if they can).

Sure. In my book all scenes containing dialogue in which Anakin talks more than a few words count toward the list.
Those are so badly written. I have seen Hayden Christensen in other movies and while he is far from being a favourite of mine, I do think he is not a bad actor. It was the script.
Same goes for Natalie Portman btw.

Padmes death scene makes me want to strangle her and easily makes the top 10.

That's a bad one too. But the secondary issue with the Casino scene is that it is so long. The Padme death scene is what, a minute or two?

That is true. For me it is still not as bad as the cringe worthy romantic scenes between Anakin and Padme.

I do agree that if Finn had sacrificed himself to destroy the battering-ram laser it would have been an original and surprising plot twist to have one of the main three characters sacrifice themselves like that, and would have added to the Rogue One-ish sacrifice made by the bombers at the beginning. However, it would have meant killing off the most original and most interesting of the main three sequel characters, meaning that we would have to have more of Rey (while I do think she is more proactive and less whiny than Luke, she does have quite a lot of similarities to him) and Poe (who is very much a Captain Kirk kind of character that we’ve seen loads of times before, although that would give an opportunity to develop his character more) in Episode IX. One thing I thought that was quite good was that Rose’s message of ‘protecting what we love’ rather than ‘fighting what we hate’ embodies what Luke ultimately does, and what any Jedi should do - rather than charging on to fight the enemy, lightsaber in hand, like a Sith would do, Luke uses his powers to protect and save his friends and relation in the Resistance by using Kylo’s hatred against him.

I have some, although I don’t expect many others will agree:
    • The Trench Run scene at the end of VII, which I felt was purely included to give the OT purists like Abrams a trip down memory lane and was also quite poorly acted
    • The ending of VII, which I feel is the worst ending of any film in the saga - I expected Luke or Rey to at least say something rather than just stand there looking at each other
    • Luke’s whiny attitude in 5, which really starts to grate on me after a while, although this was made up for by Yoda’s brilliant scenes.

I agree with you that Finn is one of the more interesting of the new characters and his loss would have been felt in Episode IX. However, that would have only served to make the moment even more impactful.

Now if she had bumped him off the line of his attack and sacrificed herself... then everyone is a winner!

What makes me angry a bit is that I think her character has quite some potential but it feels kinda wasted by her rather poor dialogue.

She is one of the characters that looks cool in comics and books and whatnot, but in the movies... meh. Not bad but not good. Rather forgettable unfortunately, a bit more depth would have been nice. Her fight scene would also have been nice if it had been a tad longer.

Personally I think there was no need for her to be included in the movie at all. I've spoken with a few people, and the general consensus is that she was likely included as an attempt to further reach the cinema market in Asia. It is of course purely speculation, but it does seem likely at best and plausible at worst.
