Really cool color scheme on that skink, and I like how you painted the jewel :artist:

What do you use as primer? It looks quite irregular and splotchy (on the skink)...

It's Vallejo white primer... it's indeed not covering perfectly even, but the effect you are referring to is caused by me touching and twisting the model on stuff like the spears and shield rubbing off the primer there in different degrees...
He's just sitting on the die cause I gave him a wash and therefore I want the models in a position as similar as possible to the position when assembled... and for taking the pictures...

the primer shouldn't rub off like that. you may have an adherence issue

Might be my sweaty fingers in combination with a kind of impatiens that's making me paint over it asap... or maybe I need to take a good 30 minutes and shake that bottle intensively?!
But it's a general problem I have... paint chipping off on places where I touch the models...

Hmmmm... I use Army Painter spray primer and I cannot even rub it off using a fingernail. I tend to let it dry for quite a while though (because it smells), usually at least an hour or two.
The Vallejo airbrush primer I also use is a bit of a problem sometimes. If it is thin and you don't let it dry for at least two hours it can come off. I normally prime stuff and paint it the next day to give it 8+ hours to properly dry.

EDIT: Also important: If it is a resin model you should definitely clean it with dish soap and water and a toothbrush before priming it. Helps a lot.

It can happen that the time between priming and the first basecoat is just 20-30 minutes when I'm in a rush... so I guess that's where the main problem is...
Also the model was already stripped several times so I think cleaning isn't the problem here...

I tend to work on a model but build and prime my next project around 2 weeks in advance sometimes much much longer, but I usually batch prime minimum 20 models at a time.

Yeah, generally vallejo primer is very smooth, i like it a lot. Do you wash your models with a little dishwasher to remove grease and residue? Or is it very humid? Or is it your vice like grip? Kust trying to figure out the reasons...

Cleaning the minis before painting should not be the reason... I do that. Especially if they have been stripped like the actual skink we're talking about... I think it's a combination of my impatience (and therefore not completely dried primer) and sweaty fingers... the humidity could be another reason but that splotchy primer occasionally appears during dry season, too... but we indeed had some nice thunderstorms here before I was painting. So maybe it plays a role...

Had to repair some spots on the bastilladons shell... and while I already had the red paint on the desk... I decided to give one of my dwarves a red cloak instead of the blue one he had... going for red as main color of the dwarves combined with black, green and various metal colors...

    Still wet...
By the way... could I enter the lady bug basti in the monster mash? @Lord-Marcus?

Working on the engine and crew of the basti...
20180512_223453.jpg 20180512_223435.jpg didn't manage to get it done without splattering painton the gems ...

Excuse the (even for my standards) bad light conditions... we have sleeping guests and the toddler had to go to bed at an incredible early time... so I got kicked out of my room...

Wow :wideyed: loving those gemstones. They almost look good enough to eat :joyful:

And awesome looking skink crew so far, they have a coral-snake vibe going on.

The monster itself is nearly finished... as the last red part the tail bludgeon got finished today leaving the white spikes, the claws and the eyes for tomorrow...
    20180519_233522.jpg
Taking about red parts... I still had the second terradon lying around unfinished... while I had some red paint left on the pallet I gave the wings a go... now I have a problem... I considered the other one to be finished but it seems like I'll have to touch up the wings a little ... or what do you think which looks better?
