Not a fan of the colors to be honest. Not sure why but for me SCE have to be metal.

I do kinda like the hammer though, which colors did you use there?

Also: did you edge highlight the red armor? Since you are a speed painter I am very interested in your technique because one thing that bothers me about highlighting is that it usually takes a lot of time, so I tend to just drybrush a bit and that's it.

That white needs a few more coats, did you prime them black?

Yes. I'm thinking about picking up the red primer from AP

Gunmetal then blue wash, Vallejo game color. Haft is sombre grey with blue wash.

I did edge highlight. This guy took me 2.5 hours. I tried to go slowly, both for @Crowsfoot and myself

You would be better using a white primer that way the white will be consistent

White primer has a lot of advantages. I prime most of my stuff white. You will notice that it also makes bright colors shine well.

Have you ever used gray primer? I heard that it's a decent in between

Went over the shield and shoulder pads, adding orange for a tertiary color. 3 thinned coats.

Gave the white a third thin coat. I'm going to re work this on subsequent test Miniatures 2, 3, and 4.

Highlighted the hammer to bring some silver back.

The red will also be reworked slightly for test minis 2-4

Oh, And i also finished his base.

@Crowsfoot I think your winning me over with the "thin your paints and take your time. First thinned coat of red. White undercoat. I also have a 'cast undercoated grey and one black (for a second time after the first)

After I'm done with these I'm choosing a primer color to continue with. White looks solid though.

It makes you produce less but it makes them so much more pleasant to look at. It is worth a try. :)

If you compare the 2 models, one has detail the other just looks clunky, to get to the next level you have to slow down.

We all want to get full painted armies on the table but at what cost?

I'm painting the endless spells atm and I'm doing them quick but they look ok, notice I said ok.

Crack the basics then you can speed up, for me you have been doing it the wrong way round, painting fast and trying to improve, the old saying run before you can walk ;)

I also need to take my own advice, I still paint from the pot, don't thin paints enough and skip details.

Test mini 2: white primer boogaloo next to test mini 1:the bedrock.

Celestra gray, ulthusn gray, white undercoat and sepia wash made some difference.

Base incoming, as is test mini 3: black primer strikes back as well as test mini 4: 1 shade of grey primer.

Once these test figs are done, I will pick a winning undercoat and continue working. I do have a commission upcoming though, so updates may eventually be sparse for a few weeks.

I've got so much stuff on my hobby plate right now. Soul Wars (half for me, half for my client) extra work from that client on commission. Whew but this layering method (while looking quality) takes time
