Now that I have been playing the Protoss Campaign in Starcraft 1 I've found how different they are to play compared to Zerg (I skipped the Terran campaign as I just felt the Terrans were boring compared to the alien factions). It's pretty amusing to see just 10 Zealots and 10 Dragoons walk in and level an enemy settlement when I would have needed about 24 Hydralisks, 24 Mutalisks and possibly some Ultralisks to do the same job. The only thing that I don't like is that they can't heal any body damage, only regenerate shields, and you can't use your shield battery on buildings. At least with Zerg any injured units and buildings are able to heal themselves gradually when they're not being shot at.
Lol Starcraft 2 is my favorite game. I tried to play Starcraft 1 but I couldn’t deal with graphics. But I did google everything that happened in it lorewise.
When I first tried out Starcraft 1 I was rather put off by the poor 90s graphics too, but I had a go at skipping the Terran campaign and playing Zerg and I was hooked regardless of graphics. Furthermore, a remastered edition of Starcraft was very recently released to address this issue, so if you want to have a go at the original, now is the time to download it! The first Starcraft will always be one of my favorite games ever. And Brood War was excellent as well.
I think there was also a group that made a mod recreating the SC1 and brood war campaigns in the SC2 engine. Might be worth a try, the campaigns were all pretty good.
I've played the Warcraft Board Game, based on Warcraft III, and it was quite fun I have to say. I've just had a look at the rules PDF on the FFG website for this one and I love the look of the figures from it. The game also looks quite similar to the Warcraft one in terms of gameplay.
