WoC are OP! (along with DE and HE).

I honestly have no clue, it's just a random picture I had stumbled across.

I don’t think it’s as much the Stormcast themselves. I myself am a fan of them, at least in their original incarnation, but I can see why others don’t. I’m sure others can comment on the specifics:
In terms of them as a whole, for a lot of the ex WHFB fans they represent the change to AoS, and certain people (who I won’t be naming, will I @NIGHTBRINGER) still haven’t gotten over or accepted the change (which is totally understandable. I joined the hobby after the change so I wasn’t aware of it until I joined the forum, but it sounds like they had an awful lot of lore there).

Aesthetics wise I think it’s the fact that they look so much like Space Marines. When we joined we were introduced to both at the same time, so they seemed new and interesting and cool. However, for the longer term fans, who had been subjected to endless Space Marine releases, it probably just seems like even more of the same.

With releases, and this is the part I can relate to the most, the Stormcast dominate updates and releases to the point where it is just plain wearying. I can understand why GW do it - it’s a sound financial strategy (they are the starter army, so they need to have a good range of models, keep up with all new updates etc and Space Marines are a concept that GW have and given how major a concept it is they are within their rights to want to guard it and milk it jealously). However, when your army is having potential updates passed over for yet more Stormcasts, you start to maybe feel just a little bit antagonistic toward them.

And finally, while I can’t comment too much what with my inexperience, from what I can gather, that same starter army concept means that the Stormcast becom jack of all trades, but still have a way to go to not be master of none as they should be! From what I’m aware, they certainly have the reputation for being OP and my perusal of their warscrolls would seem to agree with that - I know I’ve created a list with them that while it may not have been field tested, certainly seems like it would be absolute fromage against armies without a lot of mortal wounds.

Any of you passionate Stormcast haters, feel free to correct me or add to any of my points.

With that said, despite my sizeable Stormcast army, I have absolutely no issues of you brutally maiming one of their number. In fact, I’m just more pleased you actually found something useful to do with the free model!

Hey thanks! I mostly did it as one, i want to strike fear into the storm cast at my local GW, two, i had nothing better to do, three, I don’t really play much stormcast, meaning I can do what I want.

Really the issue with stormcast is they are good to a point where it really is not fun playing against them. I like challenge, but not a guaranteed defeat. With stormcast and how cheap some of their models are it really is hugely unpleasant. I do however like many of their models.

I initially felt this way as practically every other Fantasy player did when AoS came round, but because I personally don't think AoS is as bad as it could have been now that we've seen some more interesting factions appear (Fyreslayers, Kharadron, Idoneth) and the rules become (slightly) more tactical, I personally show more

I can see partly why this wound people up so much, but to me it was more their iconography and allegiance that turned me against them. Even though Fantasy didn't have its version of Space Marines as AoS does, it still had the similarities of 40K where all the lore was biased towards the Empire like 40K was biased towards the Imperium - all the dates were in the Imperial Calendar, in 8th the aesthetics of the rulebook pages and stuff were made to look Imperial, the accessories released when 8th first came out were styled in Imperial iconography, the Triumph and Treachery coin counters were based on Imperial currency, the first Uniforms and Heraldry book was about the bickering skull-obsessed neo-Germans... everything except the game itself already belonged to the damned Empire, it was (and still is to me) so annoying. Then when Age of Sigmar came round, I just lost it completely because the Stormcasts again had iconography similar to the Imperial iconography (although not exactly the same) and serve the founder of the cursed Empire - even when I first learnt of the title, it was all about Sigmar and the new Empire he would build, something I really didn't want because we'd have the same old thing, only worse in that they would rule the game as well as everything else. Do you see what I mean - how annoying that could be?

If, on the other hand, somehow, GW decided to cut all ties with Sigmar and the Empire so as to move away from the Empire-centric Warhammer Fantasy world and, say, gave them more Bretonnian-style iconography and heraldry and gave them a background of being the reincarnated knights of Bretonnia in brand new super suits of armour going round trying to protect the Mortal Realms after they failed to save the Warhammer World, that would have been great. If instead they had made them hail from some other culture, or even just made them a simply generic army of medieval knights in terms of lore and iconography, again I would have forgiven them for making them look slightly Space Marine-esque, but no, they had to be linked with the wretched Empire. That's what traumatised me so much when the new game came out.

These last two are also valid reasons as to why I dislike them a lot.

Stormcast completely outclass us in most ways. Really the only way we can beat them is a razordons skink spam. While my favorite saurus models can be used against them, you have to be creative to win much. What they have going for them is everything, cheap in points, way to powerful, and constant tweaks in their favor. Provided that also means that they often expect a win, and can get overconfident, meaning you can per say spring a nasty trap on them.

While this might be true of some people, it definitely doesn't represent my view on the subject. I fully accept that WFB is no longer an active game for GW. In fact, I very much prefer the current situation where AoS replaced WFB than to have had GW infuse SCE into a potential 9th edition WFB. WFB is nicely shielded from GW's meddling and I actually like where it currently sits. I would be quite worried to hear of GW bringing it back for fear of what they would inject into it. Also, just because I don't like AoS doesn't mean that I don't accept the change. Some people like chess and others prefer Snakes and Ladders. I fall on the chess side, but I have no issue with people that prefer Snakes and Ladders!

As for the SCE, I don't hate them for "representing the shift to AoS". In fact, I hate SCE more than I hate AoS. SCE for me is just another iteration of Space Marines. I'm just tired of Space Marines being continually pushed and promoted at the expense of every other army. The preferential treatment is so extreme that it is suffocating! As soon as SCE were released in 2015, I knew they were just Space Marines re-branded under a different name. Some people originally debated me on the subject, but four years later we find that time has proven me wise (and humble :p).

    In short:
    • I accept the fate of WFB (I just wish GW would have released on final faq/errata and finished the last 3 remaining armies)
    • I hate SCE because they are just more Space Marines being shoved down our throats
    • I hate SCE more than AoS
    • I still hate AoS, but have no problem with others enjoying it (although that won't stop me from cracking a joke or two!)
    • SCE<AoS<<<<<WFB (for me)

Settra does not serve. Settra rules!

That would make sense - his armour does look somewhat Mongolian. It was mainly the black hood that made me think he was a Night Goblin.

The Hobgoblins were taller, had thinner faces, and I think in some categories worse stats than regular gobbos.

Where is @Karak Norn Clansman ? He would know.

If I am correct, that makes the model even funnier. It is the worst (or one of the three worst) models from Oldhammer, and a long-discontinued model at that, which has beheaded the bestest, mostest, toughest thing from AOSkirmish.

    Hopefully @NIGHTBRINGER is Thoroughly amused.

    I certainly am :D

You say it is one of possible three worst? What are the other two in your opinion?

Old Nagash has to be one of them. What about the old Slaaneshi Daemonettes? (not the awesome Juan Diaz sculpts but rather the ones with the giant oversized claws). There are many bad models to choose from.

Oh yes, who could forget him? Perhaps I should put up a picture for anyone who doesn't already know what he looks like... :wtf:

Hmm.... The current Empire infantry models would be a good contender for me as I've mentioned before. I mean even the old 4th Edition ones manage not to confuse your opponent into thinking you're playing Orcs and Goblins... :p

The Spite Revenants and the old Pink Horrors look pretty dire too, as well as the 3rd Edition 40K Orks.

I probably need better lighting but as it is raining light quality is pretty bad. I can try again this evening.

But as for those lobsters I think I might start singing ocean man. If you send me one I can also dismember it :D

By worst, I meant worst in terms of stats. @NIGHTBRINGER went a different direction :: most hideous. I concur that the Lobster Claw Legion are strong contenders for that.

Skaven Slaves, Gnoblars, and Hobgoblins. The lowliest of the low.
