Hello there lizarmen and lizardwomen!

I decided to play a slann starrmaster after all, but I still don't wont to field the gungan chief in my army, so I had an idea while reading the 7th ed lizardmen book

THE COATL! in the old bg it was a creature high capable in magic and similar in form to quetzacoatl, so i decided to convert one ad use it as Slann

Fluffwise I imagined it as an Avatar of dracothion, who helps the hordes of seraphon who have a physical form in the mortal realms but lost their starpriest in battle. When the time comes, Dracothion sends his avatar to hel his children in the fight againts the chaos armies

As far as now, i've only made a rough sketch to see the possibile result of the conversion adn ordere the bits ( it almost costed me as a standard starpriest XD)

The conversion use a fangmora eel from the idoneth cavalry as base model. The models are large enough to stay on a 50mm base and they are flying. The slann is wider of course, but the wings will help the model look bigger. The head will be taken from the saurus knights kit. I'll use the cold one champion head, since it has the onrnate mask. To pair with the golden mask i decided to give him golden wings, using the wings from the griffon statue on the war altar of sigmar. The base will be covered in snakes and probably the coatl will be standing on seraphon ruins made from the engine of the gods kit.

Here's the sketch i was talking about. So what do you think?coatl.jpg

Nice sketch!
Not sure if the... ehmm... slightly derpy Cold One head will look good, but I like the idea.

If i am not mistaken an idea of some sorts has been done by @Warden...
I will try to find a link for you.

[edit]: Found it: The jade host mayan-lizardmen

Exactly as @Imrahil says, @Warden has made a very impressive Coatl using a Cold One head, and certainly I believe that a Cold One head has the best proportions of all the Lizardmen creature heads out there to fit on a Fangmora.

In fact I'm more worried about the Golden Griffon wings being rather too big for a Fangmora, but I have never built a War Altar or the Eel cavalry so I can't say for certain on how big the wings are in comparison to the eel body.

@Captain Tezcatlipoca I think it's a great idea that will really help to make your Slann stand out from the monopose GW model, and I look forward to seeing the result! :)

I like your sketch and definitely the idea of it.

Thanks gents, my coatl conversion was a fun (and simple) one to make!

@Captain Tezcatlipoca, the only GW bits I used for my coatl model were the cold one head and a GW base. Everything else was custom: the body was a simple snake-coil made from clay, and the wings were from a $5 Pegasus that I bought from a craft store. I like the idea of using one of the more decorative cold-one heads, that would look great!

Thanks for the pics Warden! I've already found your coatl on Google and served me as insipration!

THE COATL ISO READY AND IT HAS A RIDER TOO!20190515_223122.jpg 20190515_223127.jpg 20190515_223122.jpg 20190515_223127.jpg 20190515_223139.jpg 20190515_223239.jpg 20190515_223250.jpg

Wow Stunning, that turned out awesome.

I really like the extra feathers just behind the head.
the wings look great on it.
Look forward to the end result:artist:

I'm looking at jumping on this conversion as well. Someone posted a pick of their cockatrice in another thread, and I thought "fuck if that aint a coatl"

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-DK/Cockatrice

I'm also thinking the skink oracle body with some mods as the rider, shave off the claws, and maybe replace the bird head with the troglodon head i have left over.

Wow, never heard of this creature, you've done an awesome job with it.

Kinda hoping Geedubz releases one, as I would very much like to paint something like this design.

Keep it up

Thanks

Was cruising through GW's gallery just now, and found some great Fangmora Coatl conversions that reminded me of this thread:
