Time of Legends would be fantastic. Any era. But standard static setting prior to End Times is great as well. :)

Time of Legends and Arenarion High Elves Start Collecting Pack I believe in you GW :)

If we stay at 8th ed maybe do a Vortex Armies Starter Pack including High Elves, Dark Elves, Skaven and Lizardmen a big piece of terrain and a big ass vortex, however I believe this may cost up to $500, so maybe I'm not the best pack designer...

honestly, i am expecting to find out that it isn't the old world.. but rather "the new old world", with Sigmar and Co trying to ressurect the dead old world or something. perhaps using seraphon memory magic to summon a copy.. which will of course mean that they'll change tons of stuff, add the Sigmarines to the army lists, etc.

That would be the worst thing ever, but also the most unlikely. GW said Warhammer: the Old World was going to be a ‘Horus Heresy’ to AoS, and in the Horus Heresy there is no rubbish about Guilliman going back in time to kill Horus or any other weird stuff like that, so to do that to Warhammer: The Old World would make no sense, especially as it would upset so many potential players.

Since the "Time of Legends" is leading the way in terms of the poll results, let's explore it a bit more deeply. Specifically, let's see if we can collectively come up with 10 or more specific events that GW could feature as a rotating backdrop for the Time of Legends. To get us started here are a couple of suggestions...

    • First Chaos invasion
    • The Sundering
    • The War of the Beard
    • The Rise of Nagash
    • Skaven incursion into Lustria and the Rise of Sotek
    • Sigmar and the creation of the Empire
    • The evolution/creation of the Chaos Dwarfs (too insignificant?)

What else could be used? Do you disagree with any of the above?

    I’ve thought of the following:
    • The Fall of Karak Eight Peaks (Three-way conflict between Dwarfs, Greenskins and Skaven, and one of the biggest shockers in Warhammer’s history as Karak Eight Peaks was second only to Karaz-a-Karak itself in power)
    • The Crusades into Araby and Nehekhara (Bretonnia definitely features in this one and I think the Empire does as well, and would kick-start the development of an Araby faction)
    • The formation of the Dwarf-Elf alliance (Grimnir’s Dwarfs and Caledor’s High Elves vs Beastmen)

I know how much you love your Chaos Dwarfs, but I’m not sure if anyone other than Chaos Dwarf (and possibly Dwarf) players would be interested in that one (basically the Dwarf version of the Horus Heresy). If that was included as a major part of the storyline with its own boxed game and everything, you could also get away with stuff like the Ogres’ war with the Sky-Titans, which, while interesting enough to those who collect the individual armies they are about, don’t affect many other races in the Warhammer world.

Yes, especially at the beginning, every "scenario" should be able to involge a certain number of factions.
the first Chaos invasion is massive so there would be plenty of opportunities for many armies.
Karak Eight Peaks at least involves 3 factions, so it's an acceptable option for a "second release" (?)

The Chaos Dwarfs are a bit isolated, but not totally. Based on your suggestions, a CD scenario could involve the creation of the Black Orcs (who were created by the Chaos Dwarfs!), their revolt against their CD masters and the hobogoblin treachery that ultimately saved the CD. That at least gives us a third major faction (Chaos Dwarfs, Dwarfs and Orcs & Goblins) for the scenario. In addition to Orcs, Chaos Dwarfs are known to utilize human and Ogre slaves, so those factions could be easily incorporated into an expanded look at the CD; although to a lesser extent.

I know it's a pipe dream, but still rather fun to discuss the possibility.

Who was around at that time?

It would definitely feature Daemons, Lizardmen and Elves, but are there any other factions that could be incorporated.

I'd like it to be before or around the time that Archaeon invaded the first time, tried to take Middenheim, and failed, only to get his butt kicked by Grimgor Ironhide. :D Lots of fun characters, most of the armies we know and love, and a slew of weird chaos.

That or during the time that Grom the Paunch was rolling unchecked across the Empire, kicking Imperial butts before setting sail for Ulthuan.

That was the Storm of Chaos campaign if I am not mistaken. GW retconned that one!

Question: when is Warhammer Total War pegged in on the great master Olde World timeline?

    What era does it portray?

Not a specific time as such, but closest to a couple years after the coronation of Karl Franz I think

Would you say that it is roughly the same time frame as 8th edition WFB or is one ahead of the other?

    Short answer: Yes

I'd say so, though it could be a bit later I guess.
Karl Franz is made Emperor in 2502.
Archaon is marked as the everchosen in 2519, but maybe he is not actually the everchosen yet in TWW2 since Azhag seems to die in 2515 and he is quite alive in game, so if the timeline of 8th WFB and TWW2 are to be set at the same time, TWW2 needs to be set between 2502 and 2515.
I do however think they are just loosely basing it on this time period, so Archaon is actually the everchosen, karl franz is a quite new emperor and Azhag is not dead, so yes roughly, 13 years isn't much in the warhammer world.
Still, the new Bretonnian lord is about 500 years old according to lore I think, so they are taking some creative liberties, so exact dates probably can't be relied upon to date the game exactly.

Awesome! Thanks for that; I've always wondered about the time frame of TWW.

I would like it to be set before any of the major retcons happened.

@Scalenex is there a Timeline of WFB in a thread on L-O, somewhere?
