The Shrine to Lost Armies

::to no one in particular::

My favorite ogre kingdoms army you say?

I am glad you asked! In honor of the ogres and bones that seem very prevalent recently, I present to you the Munch Gutsmen and the Holy Gristle.

Where's 'brave' Sir Robin and his shield with the chicken emblem on it? ;)

Big fan of the Warhammer armies project. I really liked the books for Cathay, Nippon, and Bretonnian books, got them saved somewhere for reference.

Same. Didn't think much of his interpretation of Albion (too Scottish for my liking) but otherwise a very nice set of books - certainly he has paved the way for the unofficial army book movement to take off.

OK, this is huge.

Last weekend we organized an event (with the support of the mayor of our city) with an exhibition of miniatures (not only WH, but also x-wing, LOTR, Lego, and many more).

Long story short, a friend of mine presented 2 dioramas he did some years ago, that won (in different years) the 1st place of "armies on parade" for northern Italy.

Here's the first one: the dwarven fortress "Karak Drazh".

Enjoy.

That makes me pine for my 4000 point Dwarf army that I had back in '95.

That is a fantastic diorama. Really top class. Kudos to whoever made it!

In case you didn't know, the hobby hero who dubs himself Duncan Rhodes is famous not only for being such an all-round legend, but also for being man enough to play Bretonnians in 8th when everyone else at GW treated them so badly. He featured his army once in one of the Jes Bickham monthly White Dwarfs where he discussed the nuances of charging units with two lances of Knights and throwing peasant units in front of enemy steamrollers, and since then I always wondered what happened to them when AoS launched. Well, it seems I had nothing to fear:

Not sure if this is the right thread, but here goes anyways...

A while ago, I had a pang of regret for 8th edition armies that may never see the light of day again.

So I carefully went through all of the PDF rulebooks that I have to decide upon which armies I was going to put together.

First up was the Lizards (obviously is now Seraphon, but I'm talking square-base old school).

I've been working on my other three for a while now and am nearing completion. They are: Ogre Kingdoms, Tomb Kings and a Daemons of Khorne army.

When I have them complete I'll stick some photos up on this thread.

Tomb Kings

Never knew you had Tomb Kings, but put it there pal! *Offers virtual handshake*

You mean you actually managed to get some Tomb King minis before Fantasy was executed? Lucky beggar. I mean there are some decent proxies around, but you can't beat GW for accessibility or just having the 'real McCoy', and the only official ones around now are crazily expensive with all the EBay pirates sailing around.

Secretly I'm hoping GW will bring most of all the old Fantasy models back for existing factions in TOW, and that they only use Forge World for brand new units and factions, like they did with Middle Earth (it would make sense from a business perspective as they wouldn't need to shell out on so many Forge World moulds and it's clear they didn't destroy all the old Fantasy moulds because they released many of the old character models again as part of Made to Order), but we'll see.

:) As with everything in the Warhammer universe for me, I read their lore and was hooked. I love the idea of the ancient Egyptian armies rising from the sands and bringing their own brand of justice. Plus, what's not to like about good-guy undead! (kind of... well at least not completely evil... fine, they're on the fence, but they can ally with the good guys so there)

Yeah, it's been a struggle. Completely off Ebay unfortunately so has been a very long period of watching for deals and then haggling like an Arabyan marketplace (I give you four camels and a goat...)

As long as GW don't change the armies completely, we'll be fine as we can field the older models. If they completely change the armies then they are a bunch of ***, ********ing, ****-***'s as it would have to be completely profit motivated and a total FU to the fans who have stuck with it for so long.

At that point, I would probably found an underground movement to infiltrate GW and corrupt it from within... Well, corrupt is a strong word... How about, I would bring about morality within their ranks from within by placing ACTUAL, WARHAMMER FANS AND PLAYERS at the head of the business and make it about CREATING A GOOD GAME THAT PEOPLE ENJOY PLAYING rather than profit.

Humph!

You and @NIGHTBRINGER would be the first ones I would extend an invitation to on this shadow society.
