Painted up a bear from my miniature crates for the person who gave me said miniature crates. Went with Smokey the bear as the basis for his color and snout. He came attached to his simple base which I certainly should have spruced up a bit, but it was for a birthday gift and time was limited.In other hobby news I completed 3 Kirby perlers.

Basecoated Great Grey Wolf Sif from the Dark Souls board game Darkroot expansion pack. Going to go with the colors he had in the video game meaning white legs and chest with varieties of grey on the back. Started off with primer then a base coat of administratum grey. Planning on mostly drybrushing to alter fur colors but I’m open to suggestions. His back has good texture for drybrushing but his legs get rather smooth.

Next step was drybrushing different types of grey onto his back and legs as previously discussed. Used three types of grey getting progressively darker and not brushing as hard for each step.



Decided all this grey looked a bit boring and didn’t quite look right as in the game his fur has a bit of a bluish tint, similar to certain types of huskies. So next step was to wash some watered down drakenhof nightshade to certain parts of the miniature.



I quite like the color variation now, and next step should be to pick up the top layers of fur again with some progressively lighter greys.

Grey Wolf is grey.
I think the black does give it some nice contrast. Good decision!

Brightened my good boy back up with dawnstone, then administration grey.
I’m going to start working on the sword and the rock next. Expecting to paint sword with leadbelcher, wash with some blues, highlight with stormhost silver. The stone will likely be Agrax earth shade then some dry-brushing back up. Any fur tips for any additions? Or go back and make things smoother?

Hello once again. Believe I’m at a stopping point for my Great Grey Wolf Sif, my favorite character from Dark Souls. Reference images of Sif never show the white of his eyes oddly. It might just be that this miniature has larger eyes in proportion to his head.

Anyhow, I’ve bought many more miniatures than I have painted over the same time-span so I have options. I have Artorias from Dark Souls board game primed but reckon I might leave him for later. I’m much more motivated to either get started on the new Gotrek model or the new Lizardman Blood Bowl team.

And one without any fancy lighting.

Thanks Warden. If anyone else wants to know the products used on the basing, it was Army Painter battlefields black battleground for soil, Galeforce Nine hobby round spring undergrowth for the grassy mossy stuff, and Army Painter woodland tuft for the tufts of grass. All applied with watered down white glue that I am glad eventually turned clear. Surprised they went with a generic rock for Sif instead of the gravestone that he appears on, but I suppose that might have been too tall and weird to move around for a board game.

You got lots of contrast between the different shades of fur while still looking totally natural, kudos. The dark souls models are so neat, and I’m sure I’d find them even cooler if I’d ever played a dark souls game.

I’ve started work on my lizardman blood bowl team. Took my time prepping and gluing them, then glued them to a paint stick for faster spray painting. I’m giving the contrast paints from citadel a try so I primed with wraithbone.



The lizardman blood bowl pitch I also bought is set in a stone temple and I thought that might make an interesting basing opportunity compared to either a grass field or a more jungle type. I used green stuff and hand carved/molded it to some stone patterns I liked.


Believe I will be using contrast paint tallassar blue on the saurus backs, then dry brushing or layering a brighter color with normal paint.

As always, nice basing. And your blue turned out really nice on those saurus scales

For a while now I've been wanting to try freehand scales as depicted by neveroddoreven either in his painting a skink and getting weird with it tutorial, or his guide on freehand scale textures. Giving it a shot currently with my blood bowl figures but I'm finding paint drying on my tiny brush very quickly. Even when I feel like it is decently watered. Is the answer more water mixed in? Old paint? Another two nights of experimenting and I might put away that technique till I get better.

Not quite done with the wooden sword. Adding details and paint. Tried to add a back blade set of spikes and ended up tearing through one of the sides in the process. So now I'm practiced with using lots of wood bits, sawdust, woodglue, and appropriate sanding to repair things I suppose.

I think if I remember correctly the key part neveroddoreven mentioned in one of his post is to load the brush with tiny amount of paint for each given detail and use a paint with a consistency of the milk. And don't use a tiny brush, but just the one with a good tip. I tried this out and I must say given a good tip you can basically paint anything you want given enough patience. Still be aware of yellowish paints that cover badly. They will still cover badly, but you will have to just put more layers.

Work progressing on the sword or macuahuitl or whatever you want to call it. Sanding, spray paint, a little bit of sawing for the pommel, and tight winding of thread.

painted the teeth grey with some variation. Gold buttons are spray painted googly eyes of the correct size. I’ve now also inserted some cut glass tiles into the eyes on the pommel.

Do we know yet what the dimensions of the realm shaper engine are? And any advise or tutorials on working with insulation foam to make scenery? I might pick up the official terrain eventually but 60 is too much when I don’t play at official stores anyways. Also I don’t like the scale on the steps.
