Carno and Basti. were the models that drew me to the the faction and GW games to begin with. I built both and took them to battle.. Carno. got smashed in really quickly and Basti did alright but also got surrounded.. guess the look of them makes them prime targets. Mind you I didn't have a Slann so wasn't playing the summoning list. I'm hoping to field a few Carn. on the field at the same time. I did build my Trog. and in all fairness it is probably one of my fav. looking models.

New Zealand usually has pre-orders up late Friday by US time. I don't rember when, but it's usually when a lot of new info hits the web. The day of preorder is usually about 10amish wherever you're located (10am-1pm I think.) Course, they could surprise everyone and suddenly boom, accidental preorder at 1 am Friday night.
As a Skink player (no saurus, no slann) i'm can only approve the new Battletome direction. A possibility to play without "auto-include" slann is, i think, our best improvement. For now, not of what has been shown apply to my list. We don't even know the cost updates and bataillons updates. I'm more into tactical games, with skinks, salamanders, razordons... and small Leaders shenanigans. The actual invocation meta (for our guys) ruin my list. And also... GW stole my idea. Spoiler
Hi, I am a new member and panting in anticipation of the new battletome. If things go as usual the battletome / codex arrive first to the shopkeepers. I generally have it 3 4 days before. If, unfortunately, the couriers are not blocked because of the nocov pandemic and the wife gives me time, I have it in my hand on Thursday and I am raising all my curiosities. even without the book you should be good the app has all the warscrolls and the rest of the rules can be found online
What if I preorder book in online shop? Is it going to be available to me right after the purchase or do I need to wait a week for it to be released?
you will get it on the 14th regardless of the method. we will have the rules earlier as review copies go out a week early and we can cobble the book together from them
I really don't think that the 8 stegadon build is meant to be competitive, the article about it even says that you will be winning more hearts than games using that list. It's the same as when GW allowed you to make a list in 40k where you could bring 8 bloodthirsters (and now 5 in AoS) and the community article mentioned how awesome it was and how it totally isn't a ploy to make people buy more expensive models.
Yeah, I agree. The whole article was just a big advertisement for buying Stegadons(my guess is they're not so popular, compare to bastiladons so they try to sell as much as they could). I'm gonna wait and see, what did they do to Stegies and EotG and then maybe buy my second Stegadon.
well the mane problem with them so far was the bow was worse then the sun cannon and the sunfires where just to niche to be usfull so every one just used EotG, but that takes a lot of skinks to play right and not many can afford that
I'm curious how exactly they're going to distinguish the stegadon with skink chief from regular stegadons though, especially from stegadons that are already build since existing stegadons will already have a chief mounted upon them. Wish they'd shown one to indicate how you're supposed to keep them apart (without kitbashing, or doing something stupid like painting the one with the chief red and the others green...) I mean, I doubt we'l get an entire new kit for him. But it's not like the current kit has any bits you can add, or leave, to really distinguish it.
But they are special? It comes with the 5 skinks for crew and possibilities to swap one out for either a priest or a chief, so I don't see the problem.
I'm pretty sure it will be left to players. So yes, kitbashing / painting / whatever, will be the solution. Kinda lame from them, but it's a part of the hobby.
I'm starting to think a bound emerald swarm could get value in a coalesced thunder lizard army. 10 guard with a Slann in the ziggurat(or however many you can jam in there with a Slann) Troglodon, 2 bastilidons, 1 stegadon Either another stegadon or some warriors, Skink starpriest Throw in some dmg endless spells too. Probably not competitive but I bet it could take some games I'm going to be trying a lot of different list once we get this book!
still, I would hope there's at least something from GW to help with this, even if it's a lame upgrade kit or something. Give a faceplate for the stegadon or something. Cuz right now I can't even really think of anything besides either colour-coding them or going all-out and remodelling basicly the entire thing. There simply isn't much space for a "simple" kitbash. The howdah's already overcrowded when you just field the regular crew, and aside from the howdah we don't really have any decorations to play around with either. emerald swarm + an eternal starhost would be amazing. It more or less solves the main weakness of the eternal starhost (provided your opponent doesn't just shoot 15 mortal wounds a turn into your guard...). Just imagine re-rolling 2+ saves that also heal/ressurect D3 wounds each turn.
