To be fair, I don't play or follow 40k 8th edition. From what I had heard, it seemed to be pretty successful, but I have no clue beyond that.

As for the cover art, I want new and original art, but I wouldn't list it as a deal breaker (for me). It would definitely be a strike against the game, but not as severe as the items I listed in my deal breakers. I do understand why it would irk you though. It's one thing to recycle internal art, but I find it strange when GW can't muster up the effort to commission one piece of new art to be used as the cover.

I don't think there is any risk of that one. Those special characters are a key defining feature of The Old World. It would be a huge insult to have them in AoS but not in WFB/TOW where they belong. Plus, they'd lose one of the links to Total War: Warhammer.

    MUST HAVES:
    • All original armies/factions playable
    • Better game balance. I know it will never be perfect, but it needs to be better than what AoS has right now.
    • All models currently in metal/finecast only updated to in Citadel plastic.
    • Centralized, easy to find rules.
Things I want in the game:
    • Timeline set either in an alternate after end times continuation or end times retconned out.
    • Reasonably complex rules, but not so much that you have to spend more time looking up rules than actually playing the game.
    • Return of old named characters where appropriate.
    • Possible new armies added in such as Vampire Coast.
    Things I am flexible on:
    • Order of army updates.
    • Base size/shape.
    • Possible different versions of the rules with varying complexity levels.
Things I don't want in the game:
    • Blatant favoritism for any factions.
    • Blatant disregard for any factions.
    • Rules/mechanics purposely designed to try to make you have to buy more models or more expensive models.
    • Anything new being Forge World exclusive.
    • Discontinuing models and/or armies.
    DEAL BREAKERS:
    • The game being too expensive to get into. (Forge World exclusive, too many expensive books, etc.)
    • The game ends up not being a continuation of the Fantasy setting.
    • The game is set far in the past of the Old World.
    • Lizardmen get shafted :p

Has Age of Siggy scale-creeped its way to 30mm? 35?

    (In Your Opinion...?) :sorry:

I'll post my list later, but Indid want to respond to something. The game will be 28mm square bases. They promised the square bases in their introductory videos. And GW will make it 28mm, if for no other reason than to sell the models and upgrade kits to AoS players to supplement their armies. Imagine how cool a Free Cities army would look with an alternate sculpt steam tank from Forge World and empire shields for the swordsmen.

I dont think that was what he meant. He might be referring to the possibility that The Old World might be a specialist game using a different scale than GW's standard 28mm, for example to make units easier to paint and big armies easier to play.

Someone mentioned that in one of the threads here.

Will you be willing to pay ridiculous Forge World prices for them?

It looks increasingly like the dark side of GW will be making new models for TOW, so I certainly won’t be playing it at this rate. The only things that could convince me to change my mind now are that if they bring all the old plastic Bretonnian and Tomb King models back and make the rulebook available through GW proper like their other specialist games.

A boring addition. Bring on the Chaos Dwarfs!

Good luck with that one. I wouldn't hold my breath.

I tend to agree, but it's a promising sign.
Plus, if it's true that forgeworld will be heavily involved in the project, i think that the inclusion of CD will be an easy step.

That is true. I'd say that having too many armies could be a cause for concern. If Kislev is being introduced, how many others will be as well? I think 8th edition had the right balance in terms of the quantity of armies (and even then, 3 armies never got an update). Having too many armies will mean that armies are not updated in a timely fashion, or that factions are diluted (small rosters like some of the armies in AoS).

I was chatting with my local Warhammer store manager the other day (so get your salt shakers ready) and he expects TOW to be completely done by Forge World (he isn't a fan of FW). Whether or not that is true, it won't be cheap to get into TOW. However, if I can use my 8th ed armies as is (they still have square bases) I might be game.

I think your Warhammer store manager is probably correct.

If 8th edition armies can't be used, I think TOW will pretty much be dead on arrival.

    yep.
But i can see the introduction of new FW models to push old players that already got an old army, into buying new costly stuff.

Well, I won’t be among them.

If GW do definitely resort to this twisted and evil tactic, I will avoid TOW like the plague (or Coronavirus ;)).

GW has always tried to push customers into buying new stuff, so why not? Ad why would it surprise you?

THat said… i don't know you but if (for example), OldWorld Lizardmen could have the chance to field a model of the mithical Thunder Lizard, i'm ready to bet many players will spend good money to buy it.

They could have made the new stuff for TOW in plastic, let's be honest, because it is not only more affordable and easily obtainable for players, but also give a lot more options for customisability on the sprues.

Forge World's original purpose was to make huge models that were just too big to be made in plastic or metal, which I'm fine with. I wouldn't have anything against a resin Thunder Lizard or Khemric Titan. However, you'd think that because GW's sculpting ability in plastic is so much better now, they could easily make most of the infantry, cavalry and small to medium-size monsters (the stuff that players would be buying most of) in plastic as they've done for AoS to make it affordable for new players to start.

I think for me the only points which are both MUST HAVES and DEALBREAKERS are:

    - Able to use my 8th edition models
    - Armies balanced out (meaning ALL armies have GREAT points, MEDIUM points and BAD points)
    - Essentially 8th edition rules or a very well worked out set of rules that allow intelligence and "general'ing" to be actually applied to the game

In 8th, I HATE the fact that in a lot of cases, it is not a sound grasp of rules and tactics that win the day but which army you have gotten and whether you are a power gamer or not.

THE KEY THING for me is having armies that have great points, medium points and bad points so that you have to intelligently plan out your battles and placements.

For me, Warhammer has always been about mocking up being that general, marshalling your forces in the correct way to deal with the enemy that you are going to face and then using tactics to overcome this.

As long as I can use my 8th models, then I don't mind if they bring out new ones. Just bring out the army rulebooks first (which would also help with their marketing and really generate interest for upcoming models) and then do the models in stages.

If any of this seems non-sequitor, apologies. Didn't get a lot of sleep last night due to preparations for lockdown in the UK.
