you have one you field one, thats the rule for him!

its hard for me to balance it out, starnborn or cold?
in starborn i can teleport him, what makes him even more distracting.
in cold he has dmg reduce and more jaw attack, both fits him nice.

have you any experience with him yet?
at the moment my first try could be cold with Kroak, knights, oldblood and some sallies.

Right now unless you want to meme it up I wouldn't really bother fielding my fellow colleagues. But if you do by golly you got yourself one of the most killy units there is in the game. Sure his bracketing seems unruly to have in terms of survivability. But you're using one of my kin. You don't care what bracket he's in as long as he can make that obliterating charge and chomp down on some fresh warmbloods.
If ya go coalesed you can run him rather well against units that do d3 damage for that beautiful scaly skin thus making him in a sense more tanks and well who wouldn't want an extra bite attack on him when he's chewing out 6 yes flat 6 damage a chomp. But if you really want to maximize his carge you can think about running starborn with the multitudes of ways to get your big scalyboi closer to that wretched little sugarbabys throat.
Basically you're gonna have a good time no matter what when ya fielding this 510 point "I am gonna hurt you." machine
Kamikaze into a horde while vaporizing them under your bulk? Yes.
Teleport him right in skaloks bitchass face and show the slave of blood dragon who's the real ruler of the earth? You God darn right. Throw is realm of ghur and you can always do top notch damage if ya got the cp!??! BOOM paydirt
Use em as a meatshield? I mean I guess...
Pros: ya know ima chew through em
Cons: fuck I'm huge and ya know ya boy is gonna be lit up

My current build is this, but i still have to try it on the battlefield… and it happens to have almost all the units you want

    -Coalesced
    -no subfaction

    Leaders:
    Lord Kroak
    (320)
    (celestial apotheosis)
Saurus Astrolith Bearer (140) artefact, Aetherquartz Brooch (to recover spent CPs on a 5+)
    Skink priest (70)
    Skink priest (70)

    Battleline:
    5 x Saurus Knights (100)
    5 x Saurus Knights (100)
    5 x Saurus guards (100)

    Behemoth:
    Dread Saurian
    (520... or 510? don't recall it)

    Other
    :

    3 x Salamanders (240)
    3 x Salamanders (240)

    Bound Endless Spells:
    Burning head
    (40)
    Lifeswarm (60)

Basically, big central group: Dread Saurian with Kroak / Astrolith / Guards

(Kroak protects the DS and heals it + nuke; Astrolith buffs kroak and gives FNP to the DS, guards protect Kroak)

on the 2 wings, we'll have 2 identical groups, each one composed by:
skink priest that buffs 3 sallies, 5 knights that screen sallies and do things.

the main group goes for the middle, with the wings that do a pinch manoeuvre and support the DS; the main group can shift on the left or on the right if there's need to.
Without battalion, you'll be probably forced to go first, so in the first round Kroak will already cast burning head (to have one group of sallies reroll 1s) and later lifeswarm to heal.

looks interesting, i only have 4 sallies, maybe i field 1 unit of 3 and use the rest on a skink starpriest and more knights or something else.

Probably coalesced, while the dread saurian is colossal and has a huge block of wounds to chew through, scaly skin helps improve that durability significantly. With so many high damage attacks floating around, having scaly skin to help reduce them is extremely helpful on a unit that would be especially vulnerable to it.

You could sub out salamanders with kroxigors or more saurus/knights as well to utilize the bite buff on the coalesed more

I’ve run him in both lists starborne and coalesced. He has a role in both and honestly always does well. He does crazy work in coalesced with a hand of glory buff, and in starborne watch as your opponent fills their back line to protect from the deep strike dread. Glad to see we got a few dread users on here I love the model.

I tend to use him as a tank most of the time. He isn't as killy as you might expect.

In a sense he's the inverse of skalok... Skalok will murder EVERYTHING he touches but is as frail as a house of cards (for 1200 pts)

If the lad can last a few rounds obliterating charge does wonders in terms of kills imho. I do understand that that players can get baited into thinking they can take on anything with him(stares concerned at the gun lines aiming at him)
Dice gods are fickle though and for such an investment of points I wouldnt bother keeping em back. Unless you're having the best bodyguard for the slann or having an outstanding distraction carnifex

He's the best distraction carnifex as the opponent will have to dedicate a solid part of their list for multiple turns to take him down (usually) and will look good while doing it. The troglodon used to assume that role but he ain't as cheap now.

I run 3 of the lads. Its hilarious to see the light leave someone's eyes when they're fielded

yeah that's being discussed in other threads, the current legal cost is the 420, but a lot of us suspect that is changing as the GHB is kinda awkward for us.
