can the high elf sky cutter march and shoot if equipped with a great bow?

Great bows are slow to fire but the skycutter is technically a skirmisher because of the fly special rule

    Thoughts?

The answer is yes. But not exactly as you say.

    Why:

You are correct that Flying models get Skirmishers, but per the BRB it only applies to those that consist of more than one unit. The Skycutter can only be a unit of one, so this would not apply.

However, the Eagle Eye Bolt Thrower is not a Bolt Thrower and does not have the Move or Fire special rule, so you can do a normal flying move of 10” and still be able to fire the bow (but with -1 to hit as it is not Quick to Fire).

    Hope this clarifies.

    Best, LoR

Is the eagle eye bolt thrower not a bolt thrower? :O The more you know, would have never guessed that.

    ;)

It is actually an upgrade to the Skycutter. It says that it is a bolt-thrower, but with the following rules (clearly intending this to be used instead of the normal bolt thrower rules)

It has a lesser strength in the same way that the Giant Bow does on a Baby Steg.

Are you implying that the stegadon mounted bolt thrower is also not a bolt thrower...?

I think "it's a bolt thrower using the following rules..." means it follows all the rules for a bolt thrower using these stats.

    It's a bolt thrower.

But like I say above, the sky-cutter and giant bow entries are alike in that they are a bolt thrower with different rule sets.

The key difference being that they can move and fire (for the purposes of answering your question).

One of the forumites from Eight Edition For Life pointed out to me that in the BRB it says that unless otherwise specified all War Machines have the Slow to Fire and Move or Fire special rules.

The Skycutter says it can fire if it moves, but not marches. So therefore it does not have Move or Fire. Still no marching though, just like any other ballistic weapon that doesn't have Quick to Fire.
