If we can somehow forget the travesty that was Season 8 (it was awful), I think this might be fun!
    D_OE723XkAEPYwC-1024x1024.jpg

    The Rules/Guidelines:
    • you must choose one character from each category
    • you cannot choose more than one character from any one single category
    • you cannot exceed the $15 limit, but you can end up with a total less than $15 if you choose to (remaining money is simply forfeit)
    • everyone you choose for your squad will be loyal to you and will not try to overthrow/kill you, though infighting between themselves is possible.... based on their personalities (but not based on events in the GoT story lines). They will follow your commands.
    • your "leader" selection becomes your second in command
    • each character you choose will be at their "prime" (physically, intellectually, etc.) within the time frame of the GoT story (so they can't be younger than they appeared in season 1 or older than they appeared in season 8)
    • you only get the characters themselves (and their standard equipment, abilities, skills) but NOT any associated allies, armies, loyalties, mounts (i.e. no dragons), coin, etc.

Build your squad to make your mark on Westeros!

I have my squad picked, but I'll let a few people post theirs before I chime in.

Season 8 broke my heart. I just don't care about Game of Thrones anymore...but I will go through the motions.

$2 Leader Stannis Baratheon. All the leader options are lousy unless you pretend season 8 didn't exist then I might take Danyeris. I think Stannis is a good wise man if you don't have a sexy fire witch whispering in his ear.

$2 Tyrion Lannister Strategist A bargain at two bucks

$5 Brandon Stark Magic. The potential of his power is almost limitless and he's the least likely of the magic users to stab you in the back.

I guess that leaves six bucks so I might as well round things off with Arya and Drogo. Drogo can inspire his men and Arya can get things done.

In the grand scheme of things, the fighter and the muscle does not matter. If Daenerys comes with her dragons that I guess she is her own muscle. So in which case I'd make her the leader instead of Stannis and either take the Hound and Bronn, or Brienne of Tarth and Tormund.

It broke all our hearts. The absolute most disappointing finale (in comparison to the rest of the show) of all time.

I am at that point now. Just watched all episodes up to the last of Season 7 in the past months(I know I am late to the Party ;))
And now I have to deside if I want to see the last Season because of all the fuzz about it...

    Okay, time for my list...

The Leader - Stannis Baratheon ($2) - The best of the bunch in my opinion and a bargain for $2. He may have the personality of a potato, but he is a solid leader. Daenerys is too volatile. Jon is too foolish. Cersei is too untrustworthy and wouldn't work well with the rest of the squad. High Sparrow is too preachy.

The Magic - Jaqen H'ghar ($3) - Sneaky, sneaky.... stabby, stabby! Sure Bran is powerful, but ultimately ineffective throughout the show (plus annoying and boring). He also slows down the party greatly.

The Strategist - Tywin Lannister ($5) - Tyrion is the best bargain admittedly (i.e. best bang for the buck) , but I had $3 left over, so I decided for the upgrade. Tywin is beast mode when it comes to leading forces.

The Fighter - Brienne of Tarth ($2) - Strong, loyal, trustworthy and will work with the others. Brienne is solid.

The Muscle - Khal Drogo ($3) - The best human fighter in the show. With some antibiotics he would be unstoppable :D. Wun Wun is obviously stronger one-on-one, but he requires way more provisions, can't get in everywhere, has zero stealth and more of a liability in many ways.

@NIGHTBRINGER, since you started this thread, I appreciate that you (and @Scalenex) added some discussion for your picks.

In general, I like your picks. But, I think that Stannis is the "weakpoint" in your list, and I don't agree that he's the best of the bunch. I feel like a big role of The Leader in this list is to instill pride and loyalty in your followers. In both the books and the show, I think Stannis lacks that ability to really inspire/rally his soldiers. I mean he scared them into following sometimes by burning people, but that's not quite the same to me.
    Everything else is strong.
Any of the magic choices of $3-$5 are powerful in different ways.
I agree that Tywin is the best strategist as well (hence his top price). With him planning, just about any leader could succeed. It would be cold-blooded at times, though.
Brienne is a steal at $2.
Drogo is a bit of a wild card. I don't know that he would play well with others, but he's a terror in the field.

I don't know, the Lost finale was pretty bad too. Then, there's the "finale" of the Skywalker saga... wait, I'm confusing threads. Ha ha ha.

There are different types of leaders, with many different approaches to getting people to follow them. The ultimate role of a leader is to have those under him accurately and diligently execute the orders he/she gives them. Success in this regard can arise from combination of many factors including, but not limited to: pride, fear, logic, standing/position, leading by example, respect, inspiration, organization, etc. Stannis isn't a rosy type of leader, but many men do flock to his standard when they could have gone elsewhere. While he is definitely a no nonsense type of leader, I do not believe that his sole leadership trait is leading through fear. I think a large number of people genuinely respected him. He is a man of his principles (until steered aside by Melisandre, as was required by the story), a bit too rigid, but a man who sticks by his code.

Jon is obviously a much more positive figure (being one of the main heroes of the story), but is he more effective? You speak of loyalty, but he was literally killed by his own men. On top of that, he doesn't have the will or desire to lead. He knew that Daenerys wasn't fit to lead, but he stepped aside anyways (until the awful season 8 ending). To me he seems indecisive... not being able to make the obvious decision when other characters around him have long recognized it. It's one thing to have a character reluctantly take on the burden of leadership and grow into the role, but Jon never seems to do so.

I'd imagine that the Onion Knight would disagree with your assessment. Stannis plays the role of an antagonist and as such, he will always be painted in a darker light. You don't get to see as much interaction between him and his men, but you do see the respect that the Onion Knight has for him. He definitely has his loyalty and I think it can be inferred that he has the same effect on at least some percentage of his army.

The Lost finale was disappointing too. However, I think the earlier episodes of GoT were better than the earlier seasons of Lost. Equally, the final season of GoT was worse than the final season of Lost. So GoT's fall from grace was greater, it started higher and ended lower. I never would have guessed that they would end up botching it is so completely.

The Star Wars finale is, and will always be, Return of the Jedi. Most fans don't even recognize the ST and there are already talks of it being retconned anyways. The Skywalker saga, as envisioned by George Lucas, is Episodes I-VI. Kathleen Kennedy and company can try to tack on whatever additions they wish to, but the fans have spoken. In the case of Star Wars, you can just simply ignore the ST and you are left with a satisfying conclusion. You simply can't do that with GoT, the story is obviously incomplete at the end of season 7.
