    Hey all,

I'm in the process of painting my first Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur. So far I've kept the carnosaur and the Oldblood separate for painting purposes, but it's recently occurred to me that it might be a good idea to keep them separate on a permanent basis for when I transport my army. I don't have a carrying case yet, but keeping dino and rider separate would seem to be prudent given how large the entire model is.

Since I'm still somewhat new (or newly-returned) to the hobby, I have a few questions about this:
    - First, is this what people normally do with their carnosaurs?
    - If so, what are the options for making a detachable rider? I know about magnetizing, but I don't know if it's too late to try that since the carnosaur is already built and painted. I've never magnetized anything, but I'm willing to learn.
    - Do any of you glue the carnosaur and rider together, and if so, have you found transporting it easy or difficult?

    Thanks for any help!

I find the Carnosaur one of of our greatest models, both literaly and figuratively.

For transport intentions I decided to magnetize the throne. I can't remember if I did it on forehand or after I painted it. They are not painted over so I suspect afterwards.

Point of attention is not to scratch the scales on places that stay visible when the throne is ontop the Carnosaur. Also you have to be sure that the magnets are leveled enough so he sits firm in place and will not fall off when moving the model on during battle.

This is my experience with the model, I hope its helpful.

    Grrr, Imrahil

Thanks for your input. I’ll look into figuring out how to magnetize it. I’m not rushed, though, since I won’t be transporting it anywhere anytime soon - still in lockdown in Montreal!

I haven't done yet, but I'm thinking to pin with a bar of brass and not glueing it. I'll explain.

The Saurus comes with a piece under his parts that fits perfectly into the throne. You can drill the trone and the scales of the Carno underneath. Since you won't be glueing the metal piece to the Carnosaur, the throne will sag a bit when you move it. You'll only make one or two little holes and it will be hidden.

Just glue the Saurus to the throne and the brass and you'll have your removeable throne.

Interesting idea. What exactly will you use to drill and pin? Based on my limit research, I’m guessing something similar to the Citadel hobby drill and a piece of a paper clip will do the trick?

Yeah, that'll do the trick. I bought a manual drill on Amazon on April and on Christmas I got some brass bars from GSW. I've been using paper clips but since I have a lot and from differentn sizes I asked for the brass.

My advice is to check both the size of your drill and your clip on a sprue. If you have a ruler at home, you can even measure the diameter of both.

If you want some precision: make the hole on the throne without your Saurus glued. Use some blue tack to hold a moment the throne to the carnosaur, paint a blob with a bright colour, like white or yellow, at the end of the paper clip and insert it through the hole on the throne. This will mark where you'll need to drill your carnosaur's scales.

That might work even better than magnets. I’ve already glued the Oldblood to the throne so your method is not possible, but I’m sure there are other ways of ensuring I drill in the right spot on the scales.
